Selene was half-asleep listening to Dumbledore drone on about the forbidden forest and the black lake for the hundredth time
Pansy and Greg giggling across from her at the table, Daphne and Theo were sitting together talking together, Theo occasionally reaching up to touch the dainty cross necklace daphne was wearing
on her left was Blaise with his bored expression gone as he stared curiously out towards the ravenclaw table, on her right was Draco his hand on her thigh as he stared up at the headmaster
Selene rested her head on his shoulder "merlin he hasn't even talked about the OWLS this year, I'm going to die of old age at this point" Selene whispered in his ear a shiver running down his spine as she spoke, he huff out a chuckle and patted her thigh sympathetically
"now let me introduce our new defense against the dark arts teacher, Professor Dolores Umbridge, and please join me in wishing her good luck" Dumbledore stated his voice turning sarcastic
"hem hem" a barely audible cough sounded through the hall interrupting dumbledore's speech for a second the ditzy headmaster looked confused and continued the speech "hem hem" a louder cough sounded this time
the students and teachers now identifying where the sound was coming from, at the end of the table stood a short, squat woman, her face was broad with wide bulging eyes, she was dressed head to toe in an awful vomit inducing pink skirt and a matching blazer, in the womans mousy brown hair was a disproportionately large black velvet bow.
The Hall was silent as the witch clopped her way up to the podium unceremoniously pushing dumbledore out of the way of the lectern
Selene stared her mouth agape in shock "merlin, is that woman blind or did she get dressed in the dark" Daphne whimpered out her eyes wide in horror,even Theo had stopped mouthing down Daphne's neck to gape at the witch.
Selene's mind went blank she stared at Umbridge for what seemed like eternity not even registering her speaking until Dracos scoff from next to her broke her from her stupor
"The Ministry of Magic has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of vital importance. Although each headmaster has brought something new to this historic school progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged. Let us preserve what must be preserved, perfect what can be perfected, and prune practices that ought to be prohibited"
The horrible woman giggled out an ugly little laugh and trotted back to her seat, Dumbledore stood at the podium looking vacant, the hall broke out into whispers, and dumbledore started clapping
the other mindless sheep in the hall broke out into applause as well, the group of slytherins sat in silence obviously the only people to understand the meaning of the speech except perhaps that swot Granger
Selene sat in silence her legs crossed and eyes narrowed in thought beside her sat Draco his hand still on her thigh, his handsome face scrunched up in a glare, his jaw clenched.
