Saturday 24th May,

Dear Diary,

It’s finally send-forth day and I am excited to sing!!!!

The final rehearsal we had before the program today was different, the SS2s were much stricter with the practice, I think it might have something to do with the fact that they were just chosen as prefects yesterday.
It was interesting to watch and it was a surprise to the entire student body apart from those in SS3, they seemed to have been aware that the school management had such plans.

The newly elected Female house prefect for blue house was someone I knew, she was the nice senior that cautioned Senior Daniella when she was trying to frustrate my cleaning while I was under senior Amarachi’s punishment and she was also the only SS2 senior that felt bad for me when Senior Amarachi was out to frustrate my entire existence; Senior Doyin.
The male prefect for the house was Karen’s secret boyfriend; Senior Chris, when he was announced as the male house prefect, I overheard Henry talking about how excited he was for his dorm head and I knew he was in the same dorm with Melvin so after putting two and two together I figured it out and I went to confirm it with Karen after classes that day

The main house prefects were really chill but the other prefects seemed so determined to prove that they could control the juniors so they did everything to make sure that the presentation was close to perfect if not totally perfect and spoiler alert;

I ruined it
*****************************

I didn’t ruin it on purpose, obviously.

When we did our final rehearsal before the event started, I was close to perfection. All the seniors were impressed with my voice and how strong it was and I loved the attention

We wrapped it up and everybody went to find their seats until they called for us, I sat with Honour and Karen, we had become closer since the day we talked about her Melvin issue.
The program started with prayers, followed by a short address from the principal to the SS3 students after which the entire thing was handed over to the social prefects

They began with the imitation of SS3 seniors, getting different volunteers from each house, If the imitation was done well, the crowd cheered if not they would be given the ‘waka commot’ shout and they’d leave the stage without an applause. When it was time for blue house to do theirs, senior Hauwa volunteered and she did a spot-on impression of senior Uju, from the way she walked to the way she talked, her accent, everything, it was so good that senior Uju came on stage to clap for her and she got the best imitator for blue house

The next thing was the dance presentation by some of the SS3 students, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting but I know that the performance exceeded whatever I could’ve expected.

The girls danced first and they began with a ballet presentation that lasted for about 3 minutes and then another set of female dancers came on stage, the stood in formation and then stared at the crowd for about 10 seconds and then the beat to Shoki by Lil Kesh started playing, the dance steps were so good and so fast, they didn’t just use the dance step made for the song but went ahead to add a few original steps and it was awesome.
The beat dropped again and the familiar ‘ho ha’ from Yemi Alade’s ‘Johnny’ came up, the entire hall burst with excitement and amusement at their dance moves.
As they danced, they were joined by the boy and as the song progressed, the girls retreated to the back letting the boys have the main stage and they danced until all the girls had left the stage and then the beat dropped again.

This time the beat that came up was hip hop, it was a remix of what sounded like a prophetic declaration by the school chaplain during one of our services, one of the dancers was mouthing it while the rest of them started break dancing
The beat dropped again and an afro beat that I couldn’t recognize came on, the boys were so good with their dance
