Wow. Okay, wow. It has been a while.

Like, an entire month, almost.

Wow

First, so super sorry about the long wait. I've been having a very tough past couple of weeks, but i think I'm finally doing a little better

This is a pretty mellow chapter, no tw's, besides the usual mentions of child abuse. This may sound like a filler, but I assure you there are some good developments

And yeah, this chapter is chaotic, as always, and kinda short, but the end is very near! Hope you enjoy!!

Sophie's pov (again). (What can I say? I like writing her)

At some point, seconds, minutes, years later, Sophie and Keefe stood from the couch.

Their hands were still tangled, their lips still buzzing. But they were silent as they walked towards the hall the others had gone down, the sound of their feet thumping against the ground filling the space where their voices usually were.

Silence was good, quiet. Foreign, though, in their case, but they could learn.

Sophie could learn. She was determined to, determined to make every heart in Keefe's too large heart to go away.

Even the tiny demons.

Even his father.

This is what occupied her thoughts as they looked for their friends, silent, again. It took a little searching, but eventually they found the game room.

Leave it to the Vacker's to have a room designated for gaming. It was funny, a little, and Sophie wanted to laugh.

The room was large, like every other space at Everglen, and pearly white. Large windows covered the span of the walls with long, flowy drapes dangling down. Tables and chairs lined the large space, human and elven games both placed a top them.

The group, Sophie saw, sat in a circle on the floor, though their were plenty of places to sit, and Sophie, despite everything, had to stifle a laugh when she saw what game they were playing.

Uno.

It was so cliche, so stupid, as Biana placed a draw four and Tam groaned in annoyance, but Sophie couldn't help the smile that worked its way onto her face.

Keefe tugged on her hand, and she turned to look at him. A soft smile coated his face, too, and he mouthed, Wanna play?

She did, but she didn't know how to act.

The idea was strange enough to make her 2ant to laugh, again. She didn't know how to act? How to act around the people she grew up with? She didnt know what to do infront of everyone, when her hair was probably still frazzled and she most definitely was wearing a face that said, I just kissed Keefe Sencen!!

It's strange how grief makes it hard to feel natural, she supposed, feel normal around people you know, people you love.

And why was she even grieving? She had loving parents, loving friends, a broken, sweet boy who liked her. What did she have to grief about?

Life, her mind supplied. You have life to grieve about.

She shook the thought away. Life could wait, she decided, as Keefe cocked his head, and Sophie felt another smile bloom. No one had noticed them in the room yet, by some miracle. They had time to decide. Time to leave if they wanted to.

Sophie pulled them towards the group.

The decision was small, easy, but she didn't want to island herself with Keefe. Choosing the other way, to leave with him and him alone, was satisfying and tempting, but she couldn't. As much as she wanted to be the one to support him, as much as she liked him, would go so far as to say she loved him, just not fully romantic love yet, but she wasn't ready to separate herself.
