Memory is a very strange thing

Memory is a very strange thing. Yours in particular. You don't remember ever being able to handle it properly.

You never remember when something is missing. Your memory twists memories to make them lose their meaning. But the feelings remain. You always realize it at the end of the road.

You have always learned to set aside and compensate. You think of those you have lost by loving others the same way. Because the people you lose never come back. So you learn to forget the person they were and transform their memory into someone else.

But you never managed to replace Mira.

Each time your memory erased her memory, a hollow formed in your heart. A void that cannot be filled.

But she came back.

You feel your nails marked the palms of your hands. The weight of the ring suddenly seems way too heavy. A role too difficult to assume.

The world falters for a second and you think you're going to wake up. Because all of this can only be a dream after all.

Another hallucination created by your sick mind.

But no matter how much you blinked, the landscape does not change.

She is always there.

A door slams behind you.

That's it, I'm going to wake up.

Emiko's voice calls out your name, quickly drowned out by Oyuki's trying to hold her back. It has the merit of pulling you out of your torpor.

"I've been waiting for you downstairs for at least ten minutes! I was beginning to be afraid that you ran into Niragi or some assholes!"

Oyuki rolls her eyes as she leans on the open door. "Do you really think I would have taken her to Niragi?!"

"I do not believe anything at all, I don't even know you!"

You open your mouth to intervene Mira cuts you off before you have time. "Girls, that's enough."

Mira's voice sounds harsh enough to silence Oyuki and wince Emiko.

"I feel like I'm back in middle school..." she mutters, running a hand through her blond hair.

Mira takes a few steps forward, allowing you to see her better. Her black swimsuit top largely covers her chest to stop above the navel. The rest of her body is hidden by a long skirt of the same color, split on the sides.

Quickly looking up, you quickly turn your head so you don't meet her eyes.

Emiko slips her hands into the pockets of her beige shorts, rolling her eyes. "Great, now I feel like the third wheels..."

"Why do you think I wanted to stop you from going, Sherlock." Oyuki retorts in the same tone.

They exchange a dark look and the atmosphere is charged with electricity.
