The game restarted once more, and your hopes were high. Now that both Reo and Nagi were on the field—and another blue-haired man beside them—it completely changed Blue Lock's chemistry, alongside the fact that Shidou changed the U-20's chemistry as well. It was a whole new setup with a whole new outcome; prides were on the line.
Isagi started with the ball, face grim with determination and sweat prominent on his brow line. You had to give him some credit, more than halfway through the game and he was still chugging like there was no tomorrow.
You watched as you jogged around loosely as the unfamiliar light blue-haired man followed Isagi closely, making sure to always keep himself open. The two passed between each other multiple times with stupid accurate passes, keeping anyone else from intercepting them.
You snorted softly when you heard Blue Hair (you picked up the name Hiori from a distant conversation, maybe that was his name) and his black-haired teammate bickered. You weren't entirely all that close to them (you were positioned closer to Sae and Shidou), but from the way they were acting, you could tell it was lighthearted teasing. They looked just like you and Shidou.
However, your snickering was cut short when all of a sudden Hiori kicked the ball with his left foot, the soaring football flying with a speed and curvature on par with Sae's own skills. You whistled, impressed.
Your heart rate skyrocketed when the ball appeared to be going straight to Rin, an opponent that would be an effort to shut down his goal, but you were quickly relieved when it landed in front of Nagi. As skilled as Nagi was, you held confidence that Oliver would be able to stand up to him more so than Rin.
Jogging up closer to the goal, you took your attention away from Nagi in order to flank the black-haired man that was bickering with Hiori earlier. If anyone had any chance of receiving the ball, you figured he'd be pretty high up on the list and you wanted to get yourself into the game. Just watching was boring.
"Watch out for the counter!" You heard Isagi yell right as you reached Black-Hair man (Karasu his shirt said). You looked up and to your surprise your fellow teammate, Hayate Haru, was staring straight at you, prepped to pass the ball.
Before you could fully survey your surroundings, you were maneuvering your way in front of Karasu, arm out to hold him back. The football hit the inside of your foot satisfyingly and you grinned.
"Here it comes! Watch out for passes to Shidou!" Somewhere in the distance Isagi yelled and you grit your teeth. As if I would pass to that horny asshole, you thought as you took off with the ball.
You glanced behind you in your peripheral vision and saw both Shidou and Sae following you. With a breathy laugh you focused in front of you: Reo and Aryu. You made eye contact with Reo, and he was quick to run up to you, trying to minimize your route of action.
Reo was quick, his feet moving nimbly in order to try and steal the ball from you. However, you were just the tiniest bit quicker, using the toe of your foot to flick the ball back to Sae who was right behind you.
With Sae in control of the ball now, you twisted and dashed past Reo, Sae dribbling around Aryu, stalling for you. You whistled loudly, catching Sae's eye. With an eye roll, the red-haired man kicked the ball gorgeously, the football arcing in the air in its direction towards you.
You huffed, leaping into the air to try and cushion the ball with your chest when all of a sudden you were blinded by familiar purple hair in front of you. You inhaled sharply, recognizing the position Reo was in; he was copying Oliver from earlier in the game, shutting down Sae's pass with insane defensive skills and earning a throw-in.
Both Reo and you tumbled to the ground, and you hacked up a cough as your back smacked on the turf. Coughing as you struggled to sit up, a hand was reached down in front of your face, and you gratefully took in and pulled yourself up with their help. When you caught most of your breath and finally looked at you had helped you up you were pleasantly surprised to see Reo. You both grinned at each other and burst out into laughter. Playing with each other was never a disappointment.
"Still a jack of all trades, I see." You commented, nudging the man next to you. He smiled, rubbing a hand on the back of his neck, face flushed from running and embarrassment.
"I suppose." He muttered, glancing away. You laughed once more—interrupting yourself with another cough—and slapped a hand on his back.
"Glad to see you doing good." As soon as you said that, a sharp whistle caught your attention.
Pounding a fist on your chest as you coughed once more (damn, you thought, losing my breath is what really did me in? How inane) and looked over to the sideline where the whistle came from. To your disappointment it was a referee holding up a swap out number—your number, more specifically.
Spitting out a curse, you slowly walked over to the bench, Shidou cackling and slapping your back on the way.
"Keep my seat warm!" Shidou screamed, his voice loud with laughter. You guffawed, shaking your head, but took the seat, nonetheless. At least you could get a proper break and enjoy some of the game from an observer's view this time around.
Let the games continue, you thought as the boys took off down the field and you gulped down some cold water. Besides, you'd be back soon enough.
