Development is all about how wealthy people are and the different standards of living that there is around the world.
We can study this on a variety of different scales, ranging from different areas around a town or city to different countries in the world.
These different scales are called local, national and global.
Local would be comparing the different amount of development around where you live.
National would be comparing the development of countries and places that are very close together. For example: England has a higher life expectancy than Scotland.
Global would be comparing countries that are further apart, or comparing different continents.
