Preview: A Beginning

Between two large buildings, a shadow had been born, sheltering a large group with its embrace. Although the alleyway hung heavy with a pungent smell, laughter purveyed.

It was a multitude of boys, all huddled together, and in the center was a single, small boy.

He was adorned with a torn black suit and crouched over. With his scraped knees and palms on the floor, a scarlet red pool burgeoned beneath him; meanwhile his face blossomed with black bruises.

Then a large boy, garbed with a laurel, kicked the small boy.

As the small boy fell, the laurel-headed boy smiled before he opened and closed his mouth various times.

   Yet no words came out.

Suddenly the maniacal laughter rang louder.

But it wouldn't be long before a lullaby is sung, flowing gently on the waves of flowing blades of grass, bringing respite, then peace.

Two boys will laugh underneath a warm summer sky; worlds would collide and souls would burn.

"How boring," a boy, unaware, yawned as he opened his eyes.
