3rd person pov
xenia sat in her room staring at the photo of herself and her younger brother. she looked at him and knew that he looked like her brother, she knew that he was like him but the issue was she had never met miguel. she had never even stood in the same room as him.
"whatcha doubt nia?" hector asked as he stood in her doorway and she sighed as she put down the photo
"nothing" she stated
"i know that look, you having trouble thinking about your brother again?" he exclaimed and she nodded as she looked around her room. she had the lesbian flag on her wall as the mexican flag.
"i just wish i knew him or where he was. sometimes i think that he's just a figment of my imagination but i know he's not" she stated and he sat down in the chair that was at her desk and turned to her
"how many times have you looked for him?" he asked
"everyday since i've known, i've looked so many times but he's not here. he's probably across the world and i'll never be able to find him" she stated and then they heard his phone buzz.
"ay that's work, i have to go" he said and he kissed her forehead as he got up and left her room. she laid back on her bed as she stared at the ceiling and sighed
"this should be easier" she said and she felt her phone buzz, for a while now she had a pen pal in america , her name was sam. they started talking due to something that had to do with xenias school in mexico. xenia had fallen for the girl quickly and she knew that she shouldn't have but she did.
'any luck in finding your brother?' sam texted her and xenia sighed as she typed back as fast as she could
'nothing, it's almost like he fell off the face of the earth and i don't know, what about you? how did the karate tournament go?' she typed
'bad, my boyfriend left near the end of it and i lost, he ran away to mexico and i just got off a call from him' she said
'i'm so sorry sam that's horrible, what's his name? maybe i can find him' she replied
'his name is miguel diaz. you and him have the same last name' sam said and xenia froze for a second. she couldn't help but let her mind slip into the idea that maybe this was her brother
'i'll try to find him for you' she replied and sam sent a smiley face to the girl in response to her. she smiled at her phone as she sat on the edge of her bed and didn't even realize that she had began to swing her legs.
"xen-xen are you coming with us?" her brother asked as he ran into her room and she smiled as she stood up and picked him up as he ran his thumb over her cheek and smiled at her
"of course i'm coming with you, i wouldn't miss it for the world" she stated and he laughed as she put on her shoes and walked out of her room with him following. her phone was in her back pocket of her jean shorts as he jumped on her back
"you two ready?" her step-mom asked and she laughed as she stepped off of the stairs and nodded. her brother played with her bubble braids that laid on the back of her head
"yep" she stated and she didn't even see that hector had come home and changed. they left the house and went to the festival. xenia walked around with him until he felt the need to jump off of her back
"stay close and stay safe" she told him and she watched her dad with her step-mom before she looked to see her little brother with a soccer hall and she smiled. then she saw an older teenage boy
"miguel?" she asked herself and her little brother kicked the ball as miguel stopped it and handed it to him
"luis"his name got called and they walked off together but xenia felt someone following her and she turned to see miguel watching them closely. he took one look at her and knew that she was his sister. soon luis was kicking the ball and it went into the road
"luis" they yelled his name and miguel grabbed him out from the road
"hey" hector said to luis and he wen to xenia as she lifted him up and hugged him. he wrapped his arms around her shoulder as he hugged her tightly and she hugged him back
"you're alright" she said and then she looked at miguel
"hey, thank you so much" hector said in spanish and xenia nodded
"yeah , thanks for saving my brother. i don't know if he would here right now if you didn't do that" xenia said and miguel stared at her. she had the hair and the accent and the smile and the looks, he knew that this was who he had been looking for, he knew that this was his father and sister that he came here to find
"it was nothing, i was just here at the right time" miguel said to her and she nodded with a smile on her face
"where's your accent from?" hector asked
"at soy americano" miguel said and hector laughed as xenia smiled and looked around. she put luis down
"you saved my son. you're a hero. how can i repay you?" she asked in spanish
"no" miguel said
"please have dinner with us" she exclaimed
"no" miguel tried again
"hey, please, we insist, it's the least we can do" hector said and miguel nodded
"okay" miguel agreed
"i'm hector salazar" he introduced
"miguel" he said but he didn't say his last name and that's when xenia knew.
"this is strange, i feel like we've met somewhere before, maybe you're a stranger but tonight you're family" hector said and they walked home together
xenia finally felt like a part of her life was coming back and she was happy about it
