°Chapter Ten: Business.

Malakai's POV.

I cracked my knuckles and leaned away from the laptop on my desk. I removed the glasses perched on my nose and discarded them next to the pile of neatly stacked papers next to a larger stack of files and resumés from the company.

I was going through my emails to find a proposal from a client that I missed. Timothy said they contacted him a few days ago to ask if we've decided, but I haven't seen the mail yet.

"Fuck." I muttered as I ran my fingers through my hair.

I get hundreds of emails a day, how am I supposed to find some mail from fucking days ago.

I grabbed my phone from the desk and pulled out from the place I'd been sitting at since breakfast. Raine said she had some homework to do after we were done with breakfast so she went to her room and I had to lock myself in the study to investigate a bloody mail.

I put my phone to my ear after dialing Timothy's line. I listened to the first ring as I walked towards the large window behind my desk. I could see the little garden Raine was nurturing from here. So far the garden was doing fine, there were a couple of flowers that were growing fine and the view from up here was nice.

"Good morning Mr. Rhodes," Timothy's serious voice greeted me from the other end breaking me from my reverie.

  "Morning Timothy," I responded.

"Is everything okay, sir?" He asked wanting to get to the point.

"Not really," I said, my brows contorting into a frown as I looked back at the abandoned laptop on my desk. "I can't find that mail, I don't think they sent it."

"Well, that's odd," he said, confused. "I'll check in with them immediately after the weekend is over and ask what's their business. If there is a mail for you then I'll check it myself." He assured making me nod my head in agreement.

"That will do it," I said massaging my temples with my free hand. "Thanks, Timothy."

  There was a short pause before he replied;

"Thank you, sir." And then I hung up.

I sighed tiredly and stuffed the phone inside my pocket. I started walking back to my desk to continue with my work when a loud thud stopped me in my tracks. The thud came from the stairs and it was followed by a few faint murmurs that sounded like Raine scolding herself and then her footsteps padding down the stairs immediately after.

I chuckled to myself and decided against my previous decision so I started going towards the door. I am very share that she tripped over the stairs while running to go downstairs.

Once I opened the door I started going toward the direction of the stairs and I could hear the front door open.

"What did I tell you about running down the stairs, Raine-"

The rest of my words dried up on my tongue as I watched her welcome someone in.

"I heard someone knocking on the door and I didn't want to make them wait," Raine said lifting her head from where she was then she turned back to look at the person standing at the entrance.
