It was the final day; our loyal warriors had to make it back home today.

Kazuha had to make it back home today.

I sat on the ground, praying, before the sun made it to the sky.

Please come home.

Please come home.

I repeated the words over and over in muttered whispers. The words no longer felt like words.

My heart sank each time I remembered how there was a possibility of him not returning home.

"No, he'll make it," I said a little louder than just a whisper. I had to believe it myself, or bad luck would find its way into my prayers.

A knock on the door woke me up from my repeating thoughts and prayers. I opened my eyes to see that the sky outside my window was a dark blue; the sun was about to shine, and so did our empire at the return of the warriors.

"May I come in?" a familiar voice asked.

It was my servant, Thoma.

"Yes, please come in," I called back. He then walked in, a teapot and a cup in his hands. He scanned my room, then looked at where I sat. "Everything done before I made it here, hmm?" He asked with a smile as he sat next to me.

He wasted no time pouring some green tea into my cup.

I didn't say anything, but my servant had a way of sneaking a look inside my mind.

"You didn't get any rest, did you, my lady?" He asked, looking at the sky from my window. I couldn't help but sigh. "no, Thoma,"

He exhaled as well, looking back at my figure. I changed my position to face him, picking up the cup from my small table. "Neither did your mother," he continued, his eyes showing great worry, perhaps for my mother and me.

"Do you think they'll make it?" I asked, and as much as I wanted to remain calm, asking that question out loud triggered my emotions to take control of me.

"Of course they will make it; it's the final wave after all, and..." he assured me. My eyes welled up with tears, knowing what his next words were.

"Your wedding will be held; Kazuha promised you he'd make it back," he continued. I wiped my tears. I must stay strong. for Thoma, for Mother, for our people, and for Kazuha.

The hours ticked away dreadfully, and it was easier for me to drift into my thoughts the more I had to endure it. It was late afternoon. According to the messenger, they are going to make it by sunset.

The messenger came to our empire early in the afternoon. He also informed my mother that we have lost a great deal of our skilled warriors.

My mother didn't want me to hear it, but I couldn't help but eavesdrop on their conversation. Thoma caught me red-handed, but I didn't bother, as the last flicker of hope was gone.

My knees felt weak. I sat there behind the door, realizing that my father could have made it, but Kazuha fell under the 'skilled warriors' category.

his promise..

my hope..

"My lady!" the sound of my servant was all I heard before I fell into the darkness...
