MISTY found herself in yet another pawn shop this week, this one she had frequented before. "come on bill," she followed the older man around the shop. "hell, I'll even give it to you for a discount!" it was the last stop on her list of shops to pawn off the final piece of her treasures.

"listen, mist, I can't, I'm already in the negative for this quarter because of you." Bill stated as he avoided her eyes and began circling around the many glass cabinets that held an assortment of goods. Misty pouted in reply as he headed behind the counter.

"okay, half the price, that's such a deal! i'm sure someone will buy it." she emphasized, leaning on the counter as she attempted to barter with the man.

"mist, you're young, surely you can see how ugly this is?" he gestured towards the golden necklace with a raw obsidian hanging from it. "no one's going to come in here and buy that, we sell radios, old electronics, your best shot is the magic shop--"

"even they won't take it!" she cut off the older man, exhausted with this whole song and dance.

"i can't help you then, kid." he shrugged, picking up a cloth to finally begin his cleaning.

"fine, thanks anyway bill." she rolled her eyes, pocketing the necklace once more for the day and heading towards the door.

"oh, make sure you come back if you get anymore vhs players." she blanked the man as she exited the door, not taking the moment to tell him the truth of how she actually acquired those.

misty kept the necklace in her bedside table, for safe keeping, and handy for future pawn shop visits. besides that, she had kept to herself as of late due to the whole apartment break-in, though she made sure not to tell anyone about it. but giles had noticed her change in attitude and suggested she go on patrol tonight to lend xander a hand.

"i'm perfectly fine by myself." xander chimed up as he sat on his own at the table, yet again misty had come over to help giles organize; it mainly consisted of misty looking through his collection with little intention to actually organize.

"sure you are," misty muttered under her breath, rolling her eyes at his comment. it was obvious to the rest of them that he was in fact, not fine by himself.

"well, i thought it would just be best to have someone who could help you if something went awry." giles tried to improve the ever impending tension.

"i don't need any help, i still have all that military training from when we got turned into our halloween costumes." he stood up from his chair in protest.

"now that's a story i need to hear more about." misty was lounging on giles' couch, she didn't even look at either of them as she was much more focused on the book she was reading.

"come on xander," giles pleaded.

"what if this is what she wants, to corner me and kill me off." she shot him a look for that comment.

"if i wanted that, you'd already be dead." with a flick of her wrist she threw one of the many books at his chest, knocking the wind out of it. "so giles, i would love to patrol tonight, and of course, xander can tag along if he would like too." she feigned her pleasure with the whole situation before turning back to her book.
