The Hashira walked away from the estate with mixed emotions. Giyuu felt the same way about Shinobu, while the Insect Hashira thought the cold man had forgiven her at least a little. Mitsuri and Obanai were in almost the same boat. While Mitsuri thought she had gotten her boyfriend back, Obanai wanted to break up with the girl, again. She had shown her true colors and Obanai realized she was not who he wanted.

Giyuu made his way toward his estate but shot a look at Obanai before he did so. The Serpent Hashira knew precisely what the other was talking about. Giyuu didn't want Obanai to lead Mitsuri on and break her heart. Obanai fully agreed and nodded back at Giyuu. Mitsuri noticed the action.

"Obanai-San, what was that about?" Mitsuri asked curiously.

"Oh, it was nothing, Mitsuri. Follow me, though. I need to tell you something," Obanai responded.

Mitsuri lit up. She was hoping for the best and thought they might take their relationship to the next level. Perhaps Obanai was going to propose. She was still lost in her thoughts when he stopped her by a building. It wasn't the prettiest-looking place, so Mitsuri was confused.

Obanai took a deep breath. He felt terrible about what he was doing, but it had to be done. "Mitsuri," he started," I don't think this is going to work out."

Mitsuri was shocked. "W-What?" Tears began pouring out of her eyes. "What do you mean?"

"I mean I want to break up with you," Obanai said again. "I'm sorry, Mitsuri. I really am. But, I don't like you romantically anymore. I don't think we would work out."

Mitsuri's world was practically shattered. She didn't want to believe the words coming out of the man's mouth. "What are you talking about?! I love you, Obanai-San! Why are you doing this?!" the girl asked rapidly.

Obanai didn't want to deal with this conversation anymore. " I thought it would be best to tell you instead of keeping it a secret. I didn't want to lead you on just to make this worse than it could have been. Goodbye, Kanroji. I know someone out there is strong enough and will love you as much as you would them."

After that, Obanai walked away, leaving a shocked and heartbroken Mitsuri in his shadow.

...

Obanai walked up to the Water Estate and knocked on the door. A tired-looking Giyuu opened the door only to find his new best friend waiting for him. He greeted the Serpent Hashira with a smile and moved out of the way, inviting the other in.

To an outsider, the interior looked the same. To Obanai and Giyuu, the estate was filled with memories and emotions. Such as the dining room, which was where they discussed Giyuu's hatred for Shinobu and her antics. The bedroom where they had sex for the first time. Such a boring estate with colorful memories.

" Hello, Obanai," Giyuu greeted with a smile. The other blushed at the sight.

" I'm glad you're smiling more," Obanai said.

"Oh, really?" Giyuu asked a little surprised, making sure the smile didn't fade.

"Of course."

The two sat down on the futon and just looked at each other. It was now late afternoon, and many events have passed already. Such a day neither Hashira on the futon believed would ever exist. The eyes of both men were locked together, having a conversation of their own.

Both Hashira were thinking the same thing. "I never thought this day would come." Although unbelievable, the day had in fact come. It had come at long last. The two kept looking at each other, and it was as if time itself had stopped.
