"Did you enjoy yourself tonight?" Jacob asked as he walked me to the elevator to my condo.

No, I didn't.

I slowly nodded my head with a tight smile. "It was okay."

He raised a brow and bent his head to get a better look at my face as we walked.

"Just okay?"

We stopped at the doors of the elevator and I turned to face him.

"Listen, those types of parties aren't really my scene. I prefer the more simple things in life."

He nodded his head in understanding. "Of course. I just assumed that because you were Mr. Kensingtons daughter that you were accustomed to events like this. If I had known, I would have never taken you there."

I frowned at his statement. "I'm not his daughter. It's Lena Andrews, not Kensington."

"Right but you know what I meant."

No, I didn't.

"Yes. Just don't mention the Kensingtons in front of me please."

This piqued his interest.

"Can I ask why?"

This night had been exhausting. It's time for him to leave.

"Listen, thank you for tonight. I'm really tired so I'll head up now. Drive home safe," I said, pressing the button to go up.

"Wait Lena, if I said something to upset you, I apologize. I was just curious-"

I sharply turned to face him as the elevator doors opened.

"We'll talk about this another time. Good night Jacob."

I didn't wait for him to respond as I entered the elevator and pressed the button to my floor.

Jacob awkwardly stood there as he watched me wave goodbye.

I heard him say "night" as the doors closed and the elevator ascended up.

I let out a deep sigh and lightly banged my head against the mirror wall.

"Today drained me," I moaned as the doors opened to my floor.

I walked out and quickly entered my condo.

I threw my bag on the table in the foyer and jumped on the couch.

Without even changing my clothes, I closed my eyes and drifted into a deep slumber.

~

The constant ringing of my phone jerked me awake.

I squinted my eyes to see the sun shining brightly through the open windows.

The ringing intensified.

It was my phone.

Rubbing my eyes, I slowly stood up and walked to where I had left my purse the night before.

I grabbed my phone to see 35 missed calls from my mom.

Oh shit.

I immediately cleared my throat and returned her call.

"HELENA! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" my mother shouted, making me take the phone away from my ear. "I'VE BEEN CALLING YOU ALL MORNING."

I put the phone on speaker and walked to the kitchen. "Sorry, I just woke up. Is something wrong?"

"YES SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY WRONG!" she shouted again.

"Well? What is it?" I asked impatiently, turning on the coffee machine.
