Adwait's peaceful moon-gazing was abruptly interrupted by an unexpected knock on the door. He hurriedly stepped back into the room and closed the balcony door behind him.

"Open up, my brother, quickly," Samar's voice echoed from the other side.

He swung the door open, and Samar barged right in, nudging Adwait to the side and making him stumble a bit.

"What's going on? Why are you here?"

"Bro, I've got a date with Natasha tonight. I need your VIP club card," Samar blurted out, sitting up eagerly.

Adwait rolled his eyes at Samar's dramatic entrance who was acting like his pants were on fire or something. Chuckling to himself, he strolled over to the cabinet to grab the VIP club card as requested.

"Did she respond to your confession?" Samar inquired, rising from the bed and smoothing out the rumpled sheets with his hand.

Adwait's hand froze in mid-air, right as he was about to shut the cabinet. He squeezed his eyes shut for a moment, letting the memory of what went down in the library a few days back hit him hard, a painful jab at his heart. Then, with a sudden jolt, he snapped his eyes wide open.

Closing the cabinet, he returned to Samar and handed him the coveted card. "No, she hasn't responded yet."

Samar's eyes softened with empathy hearing the clear disappointment in his friend's voice. He was the one who saw how Adwait had been struggling lately, dealing with Nitya acting all distant.

"What are you thinking, then?" Samar asked, taking out his wallet and carefully sliding the card inside.

"Give her time. That's all I can do."

Adwait walked over to the glass pane, his gaze fixated on the balcony of his room, lost in contemplation.

He didn't want to pressure her into confessing her feelings. He was pretty sure she felt the same way about him. He could feel it, sense it in every moment they spent together. He could see it in her eyes. But, he couldn't shake the memory of her running out of the library after he spilled his feelings. Deep down, he knew his emotions had hit her hard, so he decided to give her the space she needed.

Samar put a reassuring hand on Adwait's shoulder. "I'm hoping and praying she feels the same way about you. But let's think about the worst-case scenario, which I really hope never happens—what if she turns you down? What if she says she doesn't love you or doesn't want to be with you?"

Adwait snapped his head towards Samar, his expression tense. "Don't ask me that, Sam. I've been grappling with that very question constantly in my mind. A rational part of me wants to prepare myself for the possibility of her rejection, to accept it gracefully, and wait for her or perhaps love her unconditionally, even if it remains unrequited," he sighed, taking a momentary pause to gather his thoughts.
