It all started with that one summer when I met this guy...
—
I am a writer—a student-journalist, to be exact. I've been in so many competitions in my division, yet I wasn't lucky enough to represent it in regionals. Of course, it was painful, but I always seek positivity; I look on the bright side.
One day, our school paper adviser, Ms. Lyn, announced that we will be having a school overnight for the creation of the school newspaper. A school paper will take weeks to finish, sometimes even months, just to complete that 20-page paper.
Later that evening, I asked my mom for permission so that I could join the sleepover. Luckily, she agreed, which made my heart jump for joy.
Of course, I packed my things for a three-day sleepover. When I arrived at my school, my friends greeted me with wide smiles.
"Oh, I'm glad that your mom allowed you to join us!" my friend, Lea, said.
"Yeah, I told her that I am needed here," I replied.
As the time goes by, I started to getting to know each other my co-journalists. I am from Filipino team and I started making new friends from the English team, gladly, they were approachable.
Dara, a journalist from English medium invited all of us to join a game which is truth or dare. Since I was bored, I decided to join them. They've spun the bottle and the bottle immediately points out to Ian, a journalist from English team.
The journalism team is separated by two mediums. One is the English team, and another one is Filipino team. Well, they are just the same. However, the contents that we make inside the school news paper is different with each other. Let's just say... we're under on the same campus media.
Going back, I don't know who Ian is. This is the only time where I could get to know him as part of my friendliness era.
"Ian, how would you rate Ausrine in a scale out of 10?" Dara asked, eyes are all pointed to me and Ian.
"Why just 10 when we can make it 100? She's perfect." he said which made the room full of teases.
'Oh what's with this guy'
The game continued but only lasted for less than an hour since our school paper adviser told us to work our own part.
As the days pass by, I can see Ian's friendship with the Filipino team becomes a little closer than before. My friends kept telling me that it was because he had a crush on me. Well, I don't assume otherwise stated; I just shrugged them off.
Ian and I became friends despite the teases and ships that has been circulating around the campus journalism team. There's this one day where our friends tell us how close we are. First, the entire vehicle was full of teases in the hydroponics farm, where we were sitting next to each other during the trip! We even had a picture together that was sent in our group chat, and Ian was just like, 'Oh, don't mind them', and I said, 'Yeah.'
The second is when we're at the office of the campus media. When he got clumsy and all of his papers flew down to the floor. I couldn't afford to just stare at it, so I made a move. I helped him pick the papers, and later on, Ms. Lyn and the other Filipino team told me that we were on our 'k-drama' moment.
The third was when Ian got a fever. We sat at the same table and ate together. I asked him how he felt, and he just said that he was fine. Before I went back to my space in the school, I whispered to him that he should get well soon and take care of himself. Of course, other student journalists heard it, which once again made them tease us more.
Day by day, a month has passed, our school paper is finally over. Of course we went from divisional until we reached regional and then national level! We have the opportunity to stay in the office of the campus media as we comply for our missing tasks, we've been excused for months you know.
