It's not a blessing to forget everything about oneself. No, actually. More of a curse. There are plenty of things I managed to recall, but the boy in front of me is not one of them.
He raised the yellow device of his — a Holo Caster — up to eye level.
"What are you even doing, nerd?"
His footsteps stopped. I stopped just behind him, in time to see him turn around and look up at me with dejection. Nothing about him was remotely familiar. As we locked eyes, he spoke in the softest tone.
"Are you really Izumi?"
I shrugged.
"Well, Yeah. I'd guess I am."
He looked away. I could tell he was holding back tears. I couldn't help but have my answers be so nonchalant. I didn't know him. I knew everyone else, but he just wasn't in any of my memories.
"Right, uh..."
A grey ring wrapped his left ring finger.
"It's just... I'm sorry."
