"I'm so sorry man. If I would've known it was you-" The guy blubbered.
"I know. That's why I did it. Get El, will you Lei?" He lowered his gun down to the ground again and fell slightly limb. He sucked in air through his teeth and cursed again.
"Who the hell is this Lane?!" I demanded. "They'll come in to see what's up in a second so I've got time." I didn't lower my knife from the boy.
"It's Casey, Crystal told you about him already didn't she? I saw you guys talking before we came down here. Go get them now Lei. I'll explain later. I can't believe you shot me." Lane said quickly. Casey started to come over to help him but before he could I aimed my knife higher to him.
"Your Crystals boyfriend? The one who's been ignoring her?" I shouted, not caring who or what heard me. He put his hands up higher and shook his head.
"No no, I wasn't ignoring her, I've been trying to find her. My phone hasn't been sending or recovering anything since it started. Believe me, I've tried calling her, texting her, anything! She's still alive then?" He begged. I nodded slowly and put my knife down to my side were I kept it.
"Do whatever you can for him, I'll get El and Tad." I said turning back to the door. I jogged over to it as I heard them moving behind me. As I opened the door Tad was rounding the corner of the house frantically, El behind him trying to catch up. When Tad saw me he looked relived.
"What happened? Are you okay?" Tad fumbled on his words as El finally came up behind him, shooting daggers at Tad for labeling him behind. I nodded and filled them in on what had happened.
"Shot?! What was he thinking?" El said, pushing past me into his old house. Seeing him on the ground still, El snorted. "Get up. It's just your shoulder. You can still walk fine. Help me with these bags." He told the two of them.
"But I was just shot. I can't carry anything." Lane retaliated. El looked at him with the same eyes he had just given his twin. He stepped up right in front of him and leaned down to look him directly in the eyes.
"You were shot in your left shoulder. Your right handed. So carry things with your right hand." He said, madder than I had heard him before. I raised my eyebrows and tried to stop from laughing.
Casey jumped up and grabbed five duffle bags at once in his arms. I pointed at the hole behind me as he raced to it. Dropping into the hole to carefully put the bags down. Lane slowly stood and grabbed one bag. Slowly following Casey's actions.
Tad and I looked at each other. Tad's previous worried look had melted to the same one I had holding in laughter. Seeing his face all scrunched up made me explode, I laughed until I almost fell to the ground, stopping only when El threatened to make me.
After about half an hour, we had successfully loaded the duffle bags all under ground, about halfway however, El went down to begin moving them to the other end. He told us to cover the opening when we were sure there were none left and have someone try to come down so they can lead the others on top. Of course, being the smallest, I was voted to squeeze in between the bags and the meatball roof.
"Are you guys serious? We can just all walk on top. We know the route." I said gesturing to Lane, who now had a bandage tightly covering his shoulder. El had later said he would be fine now and the bullet had gone straight through. Lane was still mad, mostly at me.
"Sorry, we gotta make sure. Besides, how mad would El be if we didn't listen to him?" Tad said. I rolled my eyes and squeezed under the metal. Baby food containers and cans scraped against my back, probably leaving tiny red marks. I felt my leg finally reach the end as the guys recovered the end of the tunnel, emerging me in darkness.
I jumped down to the bottom just as I heard knives be pulled out of sheaths above me. Someone swore loudly.
"What's going on up there?" I asked worried.
"Nothing. Just, now would be a good time to start leading us to safety..." Casey yelled down.
"What?!" I yelled back.
"Just go!" Casey screamed, hitting the top of the metal roof. "Hit the top with something so we can follow you!" I found a long root sticking out and cut it swiftly with my knife just then, someone screamed. I began running and hitting the top. I heard three pairs of live footsteps following me.
No turning back. Not this time.
