pulling into the drive way of the house, amelia couldn't help but feel very nostalgic. all the memories of last summer and all the ones before came flooding through her brain.

it just seemed so different to be back now that everything has changed.

amelia thought of laurel and how the last time she lied to her was when she snuck out to see jeremiah, much like this time.

amelia stood in front of jeremiah as he placed a white scarf around her neck. "i don't need this." she complained with a smile, showing her white teeth perfectly.

"yes you do. it would be very hard trying to explain to laurel that her daughter died because she was stubborn." he tilted his head, looking down at amelia as he firmly placed the scarf.

amelia rolled her eyes, "i don't think i'm going to die from not wearing a scarf." she retorted.

jeremiah leaned down to kiss her forehead, "mel, mel, mel. you are a pain in my ass, you know that?" he breathed out a laugh.

the brunette bit her lip with a smile, "and don't you forget it. now come on, i wanna go before the shops close." she dragged him by his hand out the house.

they drove down to the strip. amelia stared in awe at stores and all the lights. christmas was over, but all the decorations were still up and they illuminated the entire street.

jeremiah pulled into the parking lot of a cafe, and amelia quickly stepped out of the jeep. "come on, jere."

the curly haired boy grabbed her hand and interlocked their fingers once he approached her. "we're eating first." he pulled her into the shop.

"i'm not really that hungry." she shrugged, taking a seat in a booth as jeremiah sat across from her.

"mel, the shops aren't going anywhere and they don't close for another 3 hours. we got time." he assured. amelia was really excited to go to one shop in particular because she knew they had the chain necklace she planned on buying. not for herself, but for jeremiah since christmas was an entire week ago and she still hadn't bought him anything.

well, that wasn't entirely true. she got him a hoodie he'd been wanting for a while, but jeremiah meant more to her than a 20 dollar hoodie. and while price wasn't what mattered to her in the relationship, that chain was beautiful and looked kind of like the one he'd given her at the beginning of summer, except it didn't have any type of pendant on it.

amelia turned to face jeremiah as he put the jeep in park. he was wearing the chain still. she felt like a terrible person because she stopped wearing hers a week after they broke up. she didn't want to think about all the pain the memories caused, so she stopped wearing it.

jeremiah wasted no time in getting out of the vehicle once it was parked, amelia and belly followed in suit.

"conrad!" he called as he burst through the door. "connie, you here, man?"

amelia walked in after him, belly, however, stood at the threshold, staring blankly. amelia looked around for a second, everything seemed so blank. she then turned back around to her cousin, who hadn't even stepped inside yet.

"belly?" she called, knocking the younger teen out of whatever trance she was in. "what are you thinking about?" amelia asked her cousin with sad eyes.

belly shook her head, stepping in the house, "nothing, uh, it's nothing."

amelia exhaled, watching the younger girl walk ahead of her. the weight of everything hit her way harder than anyone else. first she lost conrad, the boy she loved more than herself. then she lost susannah, someone who was basically her second mother. and after everything at the funeral, amelia could tell that belly wasn't herself anymore.
