"Be a good girl." I pat Apline's head as she meows.

"Always am." Ana teases, shimming her shoulders.

I know she's trying to hide the fact that she's nervous and, to be honest, maybe I should try too.

A week ago we called to apply for adoption for that baby we found on our last mission. They said that they would contact us for an interview that would say whether or not we are suitable to be able to adopt her and, you guessed it, it is today.

Ana has not stopped jumping with excitement since we received the call two days ago.

We've been discussing names and knowing that she's a girl has really helped us narrow down the choices. I am sure I want it to be short and cute.

We still haven't been able to decide her name but we think we'll know when we see her again. Something that rhymes with her last name: Barnes.

Speaking of which, we've been tense with the wedding preparations. Wanda is helping us with the decorations and arrangements but we cannot lie and say that our minds and concentration are focused on that baby who has won our hearts.

"Is this okay? Do I look okay?" She takes a deep breath, smoothing her hands down her black skirt.

She looks fucking exquisite.

"Love, you look beautiful." I sigh, walking closer. "Everything is going to be fine."

"But do I look like—"

"Ana," Fingers around her hips. "Stop stressing about it, okay? She's our baby." Pecking her lips.

"I know, I know." Her eyes flutter closed. "It's just...what if they don't like me?" Resting her forehead in my chest. "Is not like this thing about my past with Hydra is private or something."

I cup her cheek, lifting her face. "Hey, don't talk like that." Knuckles brushing her jaw. "You're a good person and you're going to be an amazing mom."

Ana nods, taking my hand in hers. "We're going to be great parents." She whispers.

"I can't wait, baby." I whisper back.

"If you could just wait a minute." The receptionist tells us. "I'll call you when is your turn." Smiling at us.

I nod. "Thank you so much." Squeezing Ana's hand as we take a seat near the counter.

The place is huge, high white walls and modern structure. The entire room is full of posters and flyers about adoption and volunteering.

In the distance, I can see a garden where several children of about 4 or 6 years old play, sliding down the slide or chasing each other.

The thought of playing like this with my daughter in the future brings a huge smile to my lips until I feel my fiancée's leg bounce anxiously.

"Love," I place my hand on her knee, stopping it from moving. "we're fine."

Ana nods, chewing on her lip. "I can't wait to see her." Her hand tightening on mine.

"Hi, my name is Jessica." A tall, brunette woman greets us. "I will be the one to interview you today. Follow me please."

We jump to our feet, greeting her as we follow her to the hall.

I feel Ana's hand trembling in mine so I squeeze, leaning down to kiss her neck. "We're fine." I reassure her.

"So," Jessica claps her hands, stopping in front of the door. "Before entering the room, there's a few things you should know about this baby." Her smile falling.
