Chapter 3: Fathers and Sons

To me Big John was more then just my best friends dad. When I became friends with John b and JJ, he understood me. He told me that if I ever needed to get away from the craziness of my family, then I could always crash with him and John b. So that's what I did and Big John always made sure I was comfortable. Even though he had his moments, like when he tried to sell the Twinkie during his Royal Merchant search. That was the last time John b ever saw him.

'So this is what we're doing, huh? We're just sailing out. We're just gonna forget about John B? We should never have left him. We're turning back' JJ demands as we all sit around the ship wondering about John b.

'No! We're all gonna get caught. What type of plan is that?'

'It's a plan to stick together, Cleo'

'Then we are dead together' I support Cleo

'They're right. We had to leave, or we'd all be zip-tied in the back of a pickup. We did the right thing' Kiara says

RING RING

I feel the phone go off in my back pocket. I take it out and look at the name

'Who's that?' Kie asks
'It's Portis' I say

'Portis? That's John B. That's definitely John B. Hold on' JJ says grabbing the phone out of my hands and putting it to his ear

'Yo! Dude! Is this you?'

'Speaker. Speaker' Kie and I tell JJ
'What... Do you need us to turn around?' JJ says but I grab the phone back out of his hand and turn it on speaker myself
'Yo, say it again. Say it again' JJ says
'I said don't worry about me, okay? Look, it's way too hot here. You gotta get out of here. Go back to OBX.' We hear John B's voice through the phone
'We do not copy. Can you...'
'Let me talk to him' Sarah interrupts JJ grabbing the phone out of my hand and walking away from the rest of us.
'John B?
'Sarah...'
'Are you okay?' Sarah asks him
'Yes. I'm fine. Everything's good. Listen'
'He's fine.

'Thank God' I mutter

'What happened?' Sarah asks him. John b says something but we can barely make it out from the distortion
'Wait. What'd you say? John B?' Sarah calls out to him
'Sarah?' We can only just make out from John b's voice
'I... I can't hear you' Sarah says moving to one side of the boat to get a better signal

'Kildare, when? John B! No, no, no. John B!' she suddenly yells as the line clearly dies.

'Kildare. What the hell?' she curses after putting the phone away.
'You guys think he found his father?' Cleo asks

'He's been missing for almost a year' Pope says
'Sarah, what do you think? Should we go back?' Kie asks

'Sarah... We're sitting ducks. We need to make a decision. Are we turning back around,
or are we gonna keep going? Sarah, come on!' JJ says from behind the wheel

'Sarah, we need to make a decision!' I tell my sister

'He said go. Go'

'Sarah' I mutter
'Go!' Sarah yells turning around and heading to the front of the boat. I give the others a look before heading to the front and giving my sister a hug.

'It's ok Sarah, your doing the right thing'

'I'm just worried that he's not going to make it back'

'He will Sarah, he's a Pouge'

'Thank you S' Sarah says moving slightly so she could hug me back.

'So you sure you didn't tell him where the diary is?' Pope asks me from the first level
