ARIA POV

Ms. Muffins called out Liliana for speaking out loud at the beginning of class.

"Sucker," I whispered.

Ms. Muffins started her daily ritual of explaining to us how important it was for us to start 'behaving' so that one day when a new student joins, they may be mesmerized and follow us in the future. Honestly, I think she says that so we don't ruin her reputation.

"...So now let us welcome our new student, Sameer Ibrahim," and with that, she merrily opened the door and the new student walked in.

Wait- Sameer Ibrahim... that's a familiar name.

"no no no, This can NOT be happening" I whisper-yelled.

"Wait- you know him?" asked a confused Liliana.

I sighed and nodded.

"OML! YOU KNOW HIM! Of course, you'll know him. I mean, you are my best friend. you would know celebrities too. Wait, that means you are a celebrity too! My best friend is a celebrity. I'll enter this in my blog and we will be instantly popular"

I ignored Liliana's bickering and focused on the new kid from toe to head. Yes, I did it upside-down. He wore Stuart Weitzman boots and a black and white tuxedo and had a mole on his left cheek. I raised my head a little bit more only to see the new kid smirking. Oh no! it's him. I quickly looked down and started reading my book, which was upside-down. And it looked like I was blushing. WORST first impression ever. WHY DO I WORSEN THINGS AT THE WORST TIMES?

"He is staring at you" giggled Liliana.

"And I know exactly why," I said. before Liliana would start a stupid rumor I continued.

"He is my second cousin. UNFORTUNATELY. And I have no idea why he is here. We haven't heard from his family since the pandemic and now they randomly show their face? I am gonna ghost him out. Even though we haven't had much of a conversation since, like, forever"

After delivering my speech, I looked at Liliana who looked like she just saw a ghost behind me. I turned my head to see the new kid looking at me with hurtful eyes. Gosh- How loud was I? How did he end up behind me? My mouth just twisted into a rictus. He just bent his head and stared at his bench. I felt bad, typical me, a golden heart.

"Hey Sam, I- I didn't mean it that way. I was talking about Khala Rabiyah and Uncle Ibrahim. Well, not you. because we never talked a lot. Maybe we can get to know each other now. From today onward, you can ask me if you have any doubts about any sub-"

"Aria, You will be helping the new kid in his studies. Since you are the smartest girl in the whole class"

"Teacher's pet, eh?"

"What was that?" I questioned and Sam replied with a 'nothing'. I could see relief in his eyes and now I was relieved. What is happening to me? And then the whole day at school went on normally. Except now, I had to hang out with Sam. Liliana looked a little jealous but held up a smile. She and Sam walked home with me. Sam came uninvited. I waved goodbye to Liliana at the door of her house, which was seven blocks away from mine, and turned back and faced Sam.

"So... where is your house?"

"We passed it a long time ago"

"Are you planning on following me to my house? If so, I suggest, you obediently turn back and walk to your house alone."

"Or what?"

"Or- or... I don't know. It's just creepy when a person you met just today follows you to your house" I blurted.

He just passed a light smile and started walking backward. He waved goodbye and ran towards Evergreen Str. possibly where his house is located. I shrugged off my thoughts and realized I had reached home. I barged in and ran upstairs and slammed my body on my bed. I was tired. My eyes felt heavy and before I knew it, I fell asleep. I woke up to someone violently shaking my body. Alice. I kicked her angrily and she flew to the other side of the bed.

"So what was so important that you had to wake me up from my beauty sleep," I asked.

"Ugh! you beast! You were sleeping for 4 hours. Mom wants you down. So is a surprise" She groaned.

"Get out of my room," I screamed.

"Ariana. Lower your voice. I want you down immediately." My mom scolded me in a 'polite manner'. She does that whenever someone important comes to meet us.

"Sorry and yes," I said in a fake gentle voice. I got up and realized I hadn't even changed my clothes after coming from school. After many struggles, I chose a long navy blue dress and matched it with a pair of blue heels.
