Where I'm From

I am from Dawn dish soap
Sitting on the windowsill
I am from sitting on lawn chairs
Hearing campfires crackle
Cicada's singing their evening tune
As mosquitos nibble my feet

I am from broken promises
My parents' love and hate for each other
I am from constant clutter
Boxes waiting patiently for the next move
I am from having an easy time making friends
Only left struggling to keep in contact

I am from peaceful Friday evenings
My dogs Buddy and Lucky curled up by my feet
I am from family movie nights
Watching classics we have seen many times before

I am from grief and loss
Having loved ones who have passed
I am from knots in my chest
Afraid I won't meet my own expectations

I am from a loud home
Classic rock and politics blaring from the radio
I am from hearing constant idioms
"Keep going on the high road" or "Don't be a stick in the mud"
I am from being optimistic
Knowing good things eventually come
