The next morning, Harry, Annie, and Hagrid hopped onto the subway station to head into downtown London with Harry sitting close to the door, Annie sitting next him, and Hagrid sitting across from them.

As they subway train was moving, Harry read allow the letter which read:

"First year students will require three sets of plain work robes, one wand," Harry said and looked up at Hagrid.

"Essential bit of equipment, Harry" said Hagrid.

"One protective pair of dragon hide gloves." said Harry.

"Dragon hide?" said Annie confused and looked up at Hagrid. "Do they mean from a real dragon?"

"Well, they don't mean a penguin do they," said Hagrid. "Crikey, I'd love a dragon."

"You'd like a dragon?" said Harry astonished by what Hagrid said.

"Vastly misunderstood beasts, Harry, " said Hagrid. "Vastly misunderstood."

Hagrid then looked over a woman sitting next to Annie and nodded at her politely and she looked back down at her newspaper.

"Harry, look at all these books we need to get," Annie said as she examined the list and reading a loud:

All students should have a copy of each of the following:

The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1)by Miranda Goshawk

A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot

Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling

A Beginners' Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch

One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungiby Phyllida Spore

Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themby Newt Scamander

The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protectionby Quentin Trimble

"Do we need to have all these books, Hagrid?" Annie asked.

"Well, of course, you need to have those books," Hagrid said. "How else are you gonna learn?"

"Annie take a look at this," Harry said. "Parents are reminded that first years are not allowed their own broomsticks."

"Broomsticks?" Annie said. "You mean... we get to learn how to fly a broomstick?"

"Of course," Hagrid said. "What do they expect you to do with it? Clean the entire school?"

"How come we can't have our own broomsticks?" Harry asked.

"Too expensive and too much of a hassle," Hagrid explained. "And don't get me started on the parents. Parents kept complainin' bout how Hogwarts wasn't responsible for their kids broken brooms when they thought it should've been Dumbledore's responsibility to replace every broken broom their kid bought with their own money. Now that, to me, is codswallup! The parents should be responsible for their kids' school supplies, not Hogwarts!"

Hagrid continued to rant on and on throughout the train ride as Harry and Annie pretty ignored Hagrid venting. It wasn't until something in the rant caught Annie's attention.

"Plus, the school almost got sued one time when a first year brought a broom from home," Hagrid said.

"What happened?" Annie asked.

"Well..." Hagrid began. "This happened years ago. I don't really know all the details. But... I guess a first year student got a broom for her birthday while she was in school. That was before the school banned first years of having brooms brought on school grounds. Well, one day, she wanted to test out her broom and the next thing you know she's in the hospital wing. Nobody witnessed what happened so everyone assumed she fell off her broom."
