"I'm home."When Li Ming arrived, Heart, who'd been patiently waiting for him on the sofa, turned to the door, and when he saw his face, his instantly lit up.
He shifted his attention from the TV screen to follow his every move, now that Li Ming had finally returned after a particularly long day at university. Indeed, one of his professors had been planning to reschedule a class that had been recently cancelled, whereas lectures usually ended at 5pm. So Li Ming was quite happy to be back at last. He sank onto the sofa next to his lover, who smiled as he heaved a long sigh. Li Ming could barely manage to place a kiss on Heart's cheek to say goodnight, before allowing his head to rest against his shoulder, making him feel instantly much better. Heart felt his heart pound as he snuggled up against him, and brought his hand up to his head, with a view to stroking it, until something caught his attention.
He pushed his index finger against his boyfriend's arm, waking him from his half-somnolent condition, and when he realized that Heart was pointing at the paper bag he'd placed beside the sofa, Li Ming opened his mouth wide.
"Oh. I bought some popcorn and cookies for us to nibble on in front of the TV. Have some, if you want."
Heart replied with a slight jerk of his chin, while Li Ming moved quickly next to him, seemingly in search of something.
"By the way, the game's about to start," Jim's nephew reminded him. "Do you know where the remote is?"
"..."
Heart glanced back at the arm of the sofa, where the item had been placed, before returning his attention to Li Ming, who found him strangely upset.
"What?" asked the latter, turning his palms towards him, prompting him to clarify.
Heart twisted his mouth faintly, before hesitantly signing.
"I know you've been looking forward to this qualifying match, but... Can't you just let me have the TV tonight?"
"Hm!" groaned Li Ming, whose mouth was already full of popcorn, having been unable to resist taking a bite now that he finally had the opportunity to do so.
He paused to ingest the food before resuming, waving his hands so that Heart wouldn't have any trouble understanding him as he chewed.
"Players need encouragement. What if my favorite team loses the game because I missed the broadcast and failed to support them? I'd feel awful for months..."
Heart frowned slightly, before signing again with greater insistence this time.
"But it's a film I've wanted to see for a really long time. It's hard to find a subtitled version. If I could finally watch it on TV tonight, it would be a perfect opportunity."
Li Ming glanced at the screen displaying the credits of the movie and shrugged.
"All you have to do is watch it on replay."
As a reaction, Heart pointed an accusatory finger at him, before expressing his opinion in sign language:
"You can do the same for the game."
"Nonsense!" retorted Li Ming, shaking his head as he considered that things were far from being that simple. "I'll know the result by tomorrow, and social networks will inevitably flood me with news about it. If I watch the game knowing the final score, it won't have any appeal."
"..."
"That's why we need to watch the soccer game tonight!"
His conclusion didn't seem to satisfy Heart, who gestured to the TV set in front of him and used his hands to translate:
