TO LOVE AND TO LOSE

I am still going,
Still moving forward.
For a moment I just want to look back.
Look back at where I am coming from,
The life I once knew,
The friendships I once had,
The love that I once held.
It is more than just a story,
This right here is the basis for my existence today,
A pedal stool of my present.
So I just want to say thank you,
To the failures that taught me to never give up,
The storms that cheered me on to never break,
The tombs that taught me to have a firm grip on hope,
And even the nights that taught me to appreciate the day.
See losses and gains will always be there,
To keep us bound,
To keep us sound,
Maintain a balance.
It is the pain and hurt that breaks us to make us strong,
Heat to forge us,
Dull moments that make us sharper.
And as a wise girl once told me,
A taste of defeat to make you miss the taste of victory,
An experience of loss to value gain.
When bitter times hit they breed a soft and gentle heart.
I look back at where I am coming from,
The people I once knew,
The people I once loved.
Not a burden but a gift making every milestone a memorable journey,
Each with its own story.
Drawn out of hiding and kept me ground,
You kept me steady,
You kept me focused,
Showed me hope,
Showed me light.
I have come a long way,
Not ashamed to admit,
No grudge to hold.
For I have learnt to love and let go.
And in all that you are,
I wish you well.
