What is a System?

Hello! My name is Ivy, and I'm one of the co-hosts of the Siphonophore System. I figured I should do an intro about myself, but first, I think it would be a good idea to explain what a system is. A system is a group of distinct identity states (or alters) within one body. A system forms when a child under the ages of 7-9 experiences repetitive and unescapable trauma. This prevents their personality from fully integrating, resulting in separate identity states.

There are two disorders that cause systems (DID and OSDD-1). We will only discuss OSDD-1. OSDD-1 stands for Otherwise Specified Dissociative Disorder.  This is when someone has most of the symptoms of DID but doesn't meet the criteria. There are two subtypes of OSDD-1. 1A, and 1B.

OSDD-1A is when a system has less distinct alters with amnesia between switches. OSDD-1B is when a system has distinct alters, with no amnesia between switches. (Note: OSDD-1B has emotional amnesia, but unlike DID and OSDD-1A, it doesn't have the typical memory loss people usually think of when they think of amnesia)

Also, there is no original alter.
