Spiraling regrets

By james a.. galgano

The same cheap whiskey

And half smoked pack

Of brave adorned cigarettes

The same damn excuses

Of stopping every day

So easily broken every night

Even though you can never

bring back the past

there it forever haunts uncontrite.

An unfortunate untold fact of life

Until it shows unwelcome face at last

Even shadows dancing upon bedroom wall

Send one back to when you could see.

Almost like Dickens wrote about in another century.

But the lessons learned unable to remedy.

The damage done so clearly recalled.

From this sorrowful heart of a lonely room

Which finds you alone with bottle, nicotine and, all?

Until you awake to new days unforgiving light

Captive within your own little purgatory's limbo doom.

Until you are able to escape or finally greet death's call.
