Eleven: Shattered Hope

A few moments later, outside of the governor's palace, green banners with the letter Z on them were shown all throughout the palace's outside. Silver had changed the law, passing the crown over to Zeena. He knew he was doing the right thing, even if it meant getting rid of his governors position. When the trial was over, Sonic and Shadow told him that Silver did the right thing, and it made him smile happily. He not only had them, but he also had his special bear too.

"Now now, I don't have time for questions, but I want to thank the Mobians for everything they've done for me," Zeena started as she was being interviewed and photographed by a whole bunch of news reporters. Sonic, Shadow, and Silver were with her, and Silver was back in his normal overalls instead of the fancy suit he wore from earlier. Shadow was doing a pose and Sonic was waving at everyone. "These three are small, adorable hedgehogs who have not only stolen what I wanted...but my heart." Zeena said this line as she headpatted Sonic, making him purr.

After a few more pictures of the four, most of the people left, and a few still remained to take pictures and film everything. Sonic was so happy. They've impressed Zeena by making things right. This finally meant that he had finally became a hero. He finally got his wish! Zeena turned to the three as Sonic said, "There's a lot of us actually. Not just us three. There's Rouge, Knuckles, Tails, I could name more!" He took out a wallet and let Zeena look at everyone.

Chuckling and handing the wallet back to Sonic, she said, "You all will finally earn my respect as my official henchmen. Even your friends will get that too. Come along. We shall celebrate this victory!" she headed into the governor's palace as the hedgehogs cheered in advance. "We did it boys!" Sonic exclaimed as Shadow and Silver cheered. Zeena opened the front doors as the hedgehogs cheered and smiled.

Soon, Sonic began to realize that something was wrong. She kept leading them to someplace dark, cold, and creepy. That was until they arrived at a torture chamber. Once they were at the bottom part of the stairs, Sonic's eyes widened as he saw it. "U-Uh..." Sonic started. He froze in place, and then Shadow and Silver saw what was up. Zeena opened the door, and the hedgehogs didn't know what to do.

"Go on!" Zeena said happily. The hedgehogs just starred at the torture chamber's entrance, bamboozled as to what was going on. Before they could move, Zeena kicked all three of them into the room and closed the door behind them. The three hedgehogs landed on the floor with a thud. "Is everyone alright?" Sonic asked Shadow and Silver, who nodded in advance. The torture chamber looked like an old one, as if it hadn't been used in years.

Zeena then opened the eye slots to the door as the hedgehogs faced her. "Why are you doing this? I thought we were a team!" Sonic exclaimed. "We stuck together, so why treat us like this lady?" Shadow snarled. Zeena shook her head and said, "Look I've been keeping this in for some time but, I hate you three. I really do. We could of gotten along so well, but yet, it wasn't your fault-" she hesitated, remembering something. "It IS your fault. One hundred precent it is." Her voice frightened the hedgehogs as she finished with, "Get real comfortable you three. Get REAL comfortable, for this is where you'll spend the rest of your pathetic little lives."

Zeena laughed as she closed the eye window on the door and stormed upstairs. "WAIT NO!" Sonic exclaimed in terror as he ran to the door, trying to open it. It was locked. "No! That was the only shot we had, and I've failed the entire tribe." Sonic's ears drooped as a saddened expression appeared on his face. Shadow and Silver both wanted to talk to Sonic, but Shadow started first. "Sonic...listen to me. You haven't failed the tribe. There's still-" he was cut off by Sonic.

"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" he yelled. Sonic realized what he said as Shadow's eyes widened as Sonic turned his back to Shadow and sighed. Silver stepped up, but he didn't want to be apart of the argument that was about to happen. "Do you know why I chose this fate? This plan? I wanted to save everyone. I wanted to be useful and a hero. I wanted to bring that spark of hope that was lost long ago. Now...I feel like its gone. Don't you get it Shadow? I really have failed everyone." Sonic grabbed his hands to his arms and slowly sobbed. "I'm a failure. I'm no hero. I'm worthless."

Shadow sighed as he touched Sonic's shoulder. "Sonic. You're not a failure or worthless. You still have us. You haven't failed us yet," he convinced. "Even still, you're a hero to us!" Silver added, trying to cheer Sonic up. Sonic looked back at Silver and smiled. He even smiled at Shadow as the tears faded from his face. "I don't want to argue. I want this to be calm and simple. Let's find a way to get out of here and tell Zeena we're sorry," Shadow wrapped up.

Sonic wiped the tears from his eyes. "You guys really are the best friends a hogger could ever ask for. Our hope may be broken, but we still won't let go of it," the blue hedgehog said as he got himself back up on his feet. "We're gonna make things right, even if Zeena won't trust us anymore!" Silver and Shadow both cheered in advance. "That's the spirit Sonic!" Silver exclaimed. "It is. Let's find a way out of here. the coronation will start soon," Shadow then added. Hope might of been shattered, but the hedgehogs would never give up. They would make things right, no matter the cost.

Zeena was getting ready for her coronation, for she was now seen wearing a new fancy dress. Zavok made sure to have some gear stored into it as well, just in case if anyone decided to ruin her fun. "Finally. All of my dreams are coming true. I'm moments away from becoming governor of Spagonia," she said with a smile as her stylist did her hair. "I'm very happy for you Miss Zeena," the stylist said, making her laugh. A thought then came to her. "One more thing. It's about my hair. Does this...look like this?"

As she said her line, she held up a picture she drew as a child. It was herself, but in a cartoonish type style. Grabbing the picture, the stylist mocked it and said, "Miss Zeena, the hair in that picture is just too wavy and long!" Zeena laughed, but then got stern: "I drew that when I was five years old! Now get out of my sight!" Two lava guns appeared from her dress as she shot the stylist out of the window, Zavok wishing him off. "I liked that dude, he was fun," he added with a smile.

Chuckling at his statement, Zeena couldn't help but agree with him. "He was fun I suppose. I bet you're ready for tonight?" she said with a smile. Zavok nodded in agreement, and then began to look at her dress in all of its glory. He analyzed every part of it, even explaining how he had weapons embedded into it. Going down to the skirt part, he pushed apart of her dress, revealing vales of Dark Gaia energy inside of them.

"Oh, and that glow? That's dark," he said with a smile. Zeena chuckled again. "Just one more thing before we go out to the public," she then said, turning around. "Do you mind?" Zavok nodded and said, "Of course." He began to pull the strings on Zeena's dress, demanding it to be tighter. Whenever he did tight, she would keep on wanting to say tighter. The two soon ended up on the floor as one of the butlers walked into the room, soon hesitating when he saw what the zeti were up to. "Come on, tight tight tight," Zeena strained as the butler walked away. He did not want to be apart of this.

Back in the torture chamber, Sonic walked around, hoping to find an escape hatch of some kind. That was when he spotted it. A vent right underneath them. "Bingo! We can get out through here!" Sonic exclaimed as Shadow and Silver joined him, Silver then using his powers to levitate the vent's top out of the ground as he sat it down, almost hitting Shadow in the face. He ducked just in time before the vent's top hit him.

Shadow and Silver then climbed down the ladder into the waterways as Sonic looked down at the ladder in front of him. The long journey to the chapel next to the governor's palace awaited them. Sonic's hope was still a bit broken, but he had to stay strong and keep moving forward. Sighing, he said, "We can do this. For our master." After that, he climbed down the ladder.
