Finally the day had come. The day he would finally be able to see something outside the white walls and bright lights. To watch the sun shine and the clouds rain. To feel the breeze against his face again. Smell something more pleasant than the smell of drugs in the hospital and sounds better than frantic screaming of the other patients.
As much as Jimin was overwhelmed by the huge change thats going to take place in his life he is going to make it work. He has to make it work.
He could hear the distorted conversation Yoongi, his dearest friend and hyung was having with Dr. Kim Namjoon his psychiatrist about his meditications and occasional check ups but he wasnt really paying attention, mind already diverted by his own thoughts.
"Take care of yourself Jimin-ssi. Feel free to call me anytime in case you need any sort of help."
Dr. Kim's voice brought him back to the conversation. "Yes." he replied feebly.
Yoongi carried Jimin's bag outside that consisted of the just a notebook and a few pencils that he had used during the time he had spent inside. Jimin bowed to Dr. Kim and followed closely behind Yoongi keeping his eyes on the floor, watching his white shoes.
Yooongi opened the door for him in the front but Jimin quietly rejected it, getting in the back instead. It did hurt Yoongi a lot to be so distant from Jimin considering they had known each other for an extremly long time but he understood he needed time and space to adjust being around people and getting his life back together again so he did not say anything of it. He got in the driver's seat and turned the key, bringing the engine to life and drove away.
Jimin watched out of the window as the gates of the asylum became smaller and smaller until it disappeared out of his sight when they turned the corner. This is happening. This was really happening.
"Jimin."
Jimin hummed in response, indicating he was listening.
"Are you sure you want to be by yourself right away? You can stay with me for a while too if you want. You won't be a bother."
Jimin pov:
I have already been enough of a burden for my parents as well as Yoongi hyung for the past years. I am not even a kid. It makes me feel embarrassed that they all think I am in constant need of help and support. I am well now aren't I? Better than before at least am I not? I don't want to go back to that ever again. I don't want to be taken care of like a toddler again. I don't want to be looked down on or pitied on. I want to be normal. I want to feel normal and if I want that I need to be independent.
End of Jimin pov
"No. it's fine. I'd like to be alone."
Yoongi was quiet for a while but eventually agreed. It's not like he can force him to accept any support. Yoongi had rented an apartment in Seoul for Jimin with the help of Jimin's parents who were living in Busan as soon as he had received information from Dr. Kim that Jimin was ready to be discharged. He had made sure the place was quiet but also had everything he'd need on a daily close by and attainable to make it easy for Jimin. The car came to a stop outside the pale yellow building that couldn't have more than 4 storeys. Jimin got out of the car. carrying his small bag himself this time. Yoongi went to the back and opened the boot to take out the bags he had packed Jimin's clothes and other belongings in. He had packed as much as he could ( he definitely did not try to fit Jimin's entire 23 years of existing belongings into those bags ).
"I already talked to the landlord. He doesn't reside here but his son does in one of the apartments and the tenants pay the rent to him. I already spoke to him but I can introduce you to him if you want."
Jimin shook his head slightly, "It is alright. Tomorrow. I'm a little tired." he spoke softly to which Yoongi nodded and carried the bags inside the building climbing up the stairs. "They do not have an elevator but you're on the first floor so I hope thats okay?" Jimin nodded. He wouldn't have used the elevator even if it was available either ways. It was too soon to be getting into closed spaces again. Yoongi unlocked the door and walked inside, placing the bags beside the small couch. The place wasn't too big but it was small and cozy. Jimin thought he could get used to this place. "I can unpack myself. You can go home. Rest." Yoongi looked at him unsure, "But you said you were tired." Jimin just stared at his shoes unwilling and not having the strength to argue. He hadn't looked Yoongi in the eyes once the whole morning. He never looked anyone in the eyes. More like he couldn't. It was just like he sort of lost the ability. Looking into their eyes realizing all their attention was on him made him anxious and deprived his ability to speak.
"Okay. If you say so. Call me later okay? If you need anything-"
"I know hyung..." he replied sounding a little exhausted from being on the receiving end of Yoongi's caring nags.
Yoongi smiled a little, before he walked out, gone unnoticed by Jimin. He looked around the apartment. The walls were a shade of pale green and Jimin couldn't be more thankful. As long as they weren't white. He glanced at the bags and decided to unpack later as he laid on the couch and watched the wings of the ceiling fan spinning about in a a slow pace. He did not bother turning up the speed since it was chilly weather anyways. His eyelids closed slowly as he almost drifted into slumber before he was awoken by the sound of the doorbell. Did Yoongi hyung come back again? he thought and got up, walking to the door to unlock it but stopped. He reminded himself to not open doors without asking first.
"Who is it?" he questioned politely.
"Uhh I'm the... landlord's son? I knew you were coming in today so I just wanted to introduce myself and tell you where I live so you know where to find me in case of any problems."
Jimin opened the door, convinced it wasn't a big bad man who would kidnap him. He saw the the man's brown shoes not fully worn, his heels still exposed out. He was wearing black ripped jeans and a denim jacket on top of some tshirt. Now he felt like a kid in front of him wearing a yellow oversized hoodie and black shorts that came up to his knees. He bowed and spoke, "Good morning...sir. I'm Park Jimin." he managed to speak as audible as he could. He heard the other let out a flustered laugh, "You don't have to call me sir. I'm not that old. I think we're about the same age." He saw his hand in front of him, probably for a handshake, "I'm Kim Taehyung. Nice to meet you Jimin-sshi."
Kim Taehyung. That name sounded even better coming from him, his deep voice raising goosebumps on Jimin's skin which was thankfully not seen. He brought up his hand, half covered by his sleeves itself hesitantly which was instantly embraced by Taehyung's big, warm hand in a gentle handshake.
That was the first physical contact Jimin had had from a person who wasn't touching him to hold him down for his shots. He liked it just for a second before it got too hot for him. It felt like he was touching burning fire. He pulled his hand back with a jerk catching Taehyung by surprise. "Not a touchy person. Okay. My apologies." he retracted his hand that was awkwardly left in mid air. "My apartment is upstairs. 2nd floor. Number 5. You can also reach me through the landline. The number is kept near the phone. Feel free to call me any time if you find anything not working or so." Jimin nodded still observing Taehyung's shoes. "Thank you."
"No problem. Have a nice day then Jiminsshi." Taehyung smiled and walked upstairs. Jimin closed the door after he couldn't hear his footsteps anymore. "Sleepy." he mumbled to himself and threw himself back onto the couch, falling asleep instantly.
