If you travelled forty-five minutes south from Cousins Beach, you'd arrive at the aptly named scenic town of Lighthouse Pier, known in part for its large lighthouse and marine life. The local high school, Lighthouse High School of Environmental Science, was also aptly named, with students from all over the country flocking to the town to learn marine biology, conservation, and other such studies.
Cooper Chandler, local, was a cool girl in all ways that a girl could be cool. Gender-neutral name with double letter "C", big dreams, fantastic grades, and a blossoming social life. She was often seen attending parties for around thirty minutes, making her rounds, and then departing. It was cool. It was mysterious. Within the social hierarchy of Lighthouse Pier, she was at the top.
When Cameron transferred in at the beginning of their senior year, Cooper was assigned to be his "buddy" as part of a new initiative the guidance office had set in order to make newcomers feel more welcome (rumor has it that this came to be from the last new student's family suing the district for emotional distress, claiming that their son made no friends and was incredibly depressed and that it was the school's fault). Cam had a gender-neutral name. Cam was cool. Cam had this silly, Labrador-esq energy that was both charming and terrifying all at the same time. Cooper was unsettled, but as the good student she was, she would not fail. She would be Cam's buddy, even if he drove her insane in the process.
She didn't know that she was driving him insane too.

If you know anything about me, it's that I have very bad commitment issues. I can't commit to writing a book. I get bored way too easily, so if I only publish two chapters of this and then never update it again, please don't be mad at me. Anyway I love the setting of this book so much I have been listening to Hozier on repeat so all I know is bog and Ireland and worms and love, so I had to set this in a fish/pier town. Also I've never been to a fishing or pier town in my life, I live in a beach town but I don't actually go to the beach, so if you notice any inaccuracies please be sure to let me know
Also YES I gave cam a last name. I looked it up and he doesn't have one and my girl coop will be giving him the rivals to lovers treatment (addressing each other on a last name basis). Also my dog's name is cooper but I just couldn't get over how good cooper chandler sounded nothing else sounded as good
