. . . . . . . .

skinny, sublimity, and soporific;

december 10th,
eyes heavy
filled with dread
my back hangs to the side
body leans over the luggage
slowly my eyes droop
hear the cars running
feel the other people walk around me
smell them too.

"mrs. daye?" the voice is strident.
"yes," i begin to blur my words together, "i am mrs. daye."
"your room is ready," the toneless voice hums.

i open my eyes
stumbling into wall
i nod my head
grabbing the key that was left on the counter
her lips are moving
nothing comes out
all that is heard is my own breath
i look down at my key
room 5.

. . . . . .

skinny, sublimity, and soporific;

on december 4th
i am fired
by a boss who :

shames us, starves us, scares us.

through the mirror in his bathroom
each day
you become more deformed
bones crooked
stomach enlarged
legs shortened
eyes widened
nose puffy
ears pointy
lips thin
feet flat
you become more of what you are told not to be
he points out
something you never noticed before
sometimes
if you look through the mirror in his bathroom
when he isn't looking
you will see your skin melting:

he left the room
for a drink
told me

"find something you'd like to improve today"

as i stare
i can see
the skin
melting off my body
my face becoming faulty
my bones drooping down
i tried to hold it all together
i really did
my hands started to mix together
i am now inhuman
and drowning
in my own skin
the skin that nobody likes
the skin that suffocates my bones
the fat that stretches it out
i think it's fighting me back

"are you alright?" my boss breathed out.
"what?" i whipped my head, my arms still around my body.
"i said are you alright?" his tone growing tighter.

in the mirror
my body was not deformed
my face was not inhuman
yet i still felt the same
in front of his mirror.

. . . . . .

i lay
facing the ceiling

ringgggg

breath hitches
my body stiffening
i peer through the sheets

"hello?" i answer softly.
"hey, christy!" the phone sang.
"hey mimi," murmuring, i fall back into the pillows.
"how was work?" mimi giggled.
i sighed, "i uhm, got fired."
"what?" i could hear shuffling, "what happened?"
"nothing," i hissed.
"okay," she paused for a second, "you want to know a secret?"
"what?" i giggled, "i guess so."
"promise not to tell anybody?" she squealed.
"i super duper duper promise!" i whined.
"fine!" she sighs, "i think i found a way to get us money.."

this is how it all starts
and all by serendipity

skinny, sublimity, soporific, and serendipity;
