"Tum yahan aaram karo, main kuch laati hoon," she said, already turning away—to the kitchen, leaving me to stare after her.
It hit me then. There was nothing in the kitchen. How was she planning to cook?
I pushed myself up and followed her, my curiosity outweighing my exhaustion. She knelt beside her suitcase, unzipping it, and pulled out a container before heading into the kitchen. I watched in silence, my chest tightening at the sight.
She came prepared. For me.
As she turned to grab something, she caught me standing in the doorway and gasped, jumping slightly.
"Tum yahan kya kar rahe ho, Shivank? Maine kaha na tum aaram karo!" She walked up to me, her voice sharp with worry. "Tum kyun nahi samajhte?"
I didn't move. I just looked at her, a silent plea in my eyes—the kind I knew she could never resist.
She let out an exasperated sigh. "Accha, thik hai," she relented, rolling her eyes. "Yahan baith jao."
She pointed to the counter beside the stove. Without hesitation, I hopped up, content to sit there and watch her cook.

Minutes later, she placed a plate in my hands, her eyes shining with excitement.
"Methi ke paranthe—tumhare favourite!" she beamed. "Main ghar se banakar layi thi... Chalo, khao ab!"
I stared at the plate. My vision blurred. A lump formed in my throat as I looked at the food then to her, a question burning inside me.
