A few months, its sister started getting abused badly by her girlfriend but they didn't know because the girlfriend would isolate Elena and force her to tell everyone was fine. After 10 years of this, Elena snapped and killed her abuser as she's now back home. She and their family now help Elena cope with what happened to her. But it feels like they could've prevented it.
