Growing up Aurelia was never a fan of parties - family or school ones. That is until she realized it wasn't the parties that she didn't like but rather the company that made her not want to be at them. So when she first accepted Jessie's offer to go to a party she was weary but had fun.
Like actual fun being herself - nondrinker and nonsmoker - without feeling any pressure. Sure people offered her alcohol, drugs, and other things but not once did she feel pressure to need to take them. Even if people kept asking more than once Jessie was there to tell them to fuck off or accept it for her and then throw it away.
So when Jessie asked her what she wanted to do for her birthday after finding out when it was and when Aurelia answered with a simple, "Nothing"
Jessie tried to do just that but still got the girl a small cake and her most recent favorite take out. Aurelia never did anything big for her birthday so she never knew anything other than going on with her day as if it was any other day - besides having a cake for the day.
That all changed when Jaime came into her life.
After finals had been postponed because a Gotham threatening villain made it impossible for things to happen. Before the new semester started finals were taken which for uni students it wasn't the first time it'd happen.
With their final semester before graduating it was also the most intense upcoming months because if they failed any classes that meant they wouldn't be graduating as planned. Within the madness of March which came midterms Aurelia was also only counting down the days till her papers and designs were due rather than keeping track of the dates.
Her last midterm presentation being on a Friday left her exhausted yet wearing an outfit that gave her confidence to speak in front of a classroom. So once she reached the hallway of her apartment with lanyard keys in hand she let her backpack drag on the floor.
On the other end of the door Jaime was helping new friends set up the apartment with decorations. After that one night out drinking with Aurelia's friends he was quick to get along with them and soon some of her friends were becoming his. So when he got the idea to throw her a birthday party and brought it up to Alfie when playing Fortnite, who then told Jessie it was no longer an idea but rather a whole plan being set.
Which meant Aurelia was met with streamers, her friends in pointy colorful party hats, a cake on the table surrounded by some of her favorite foods and drinks.
