Lawndale was its usual dreary self, but Daria Morgendorffer couldn't help but feel that something was off. As she walked through the halls of Lawndale High, her monotone expression hid her curiosity. Jane Lane, her best friend, was also picking up on the odd vibe in the air.
"Hey, Daria. Have you noticed anything weird today?" Jane asked as they sat under their favorite tree during lunch.
Daria raised an eyebrow. "Weird is subjective, Jane. We live in a town where 'normal' is considered a misdemeanor."
Jane chuckled. "True, but this is different. It's like reality is... shifting."
Before Daria could respond, the sky darkened, and a strange vortex appeared above them. Papers and objects from the school started swirling towards it. The students screamed and scattered.
With a sigh, Daria deadpanned, "I guess normalcy just fled town."
