Think of a name, it's like naming a newborn baby, just this person isn't a baby and this is just a character. Think of a first name and a surname (middle name optional) this will make your story a little bit more detailed.
The main thing is to try and not use names of you, your friends, family etc.
The reason for this is just in case they do not want their name in your story, you can use first name, just do not use last names, unless you are very careless about your personal life.
