SAMANTHA DIAZ WAS A GIRL OF VERY FEW WORDS. Born with a rare condition known as Acute Genetic Decay Syndrome that directly affected her ability to speak, she had no choice, really. Up until the age of ten years old, Sammi became selectively mute and refused to try to speak to anybody.
It wasn't until she was twelve years old that her parents found a local Wellness Program in Seattle did they start to have hope. Sammi would endure countless appointments and tests for an entire summer along with a handful of other kids before being prescribed a permanent medication that would only subdue her illness.
She used them a crutch from that point on, creating a life for herself that revolved solely around those blue pills prescribed to her by one Dr. Alex Sarkov. Dizzy? Pills. Headache? Pills. Stomachache? Pills. She couldn't imagine a life without them, not wanting to remember the one she lived before them.
So when her prescription suddenly doesn't come in for the month, not only does Sammi lose her mind, but she discovers that some strange side effects emerge without them.
