Why is he here? That's the first thing that pops into my mind. I turn to Prim to tell her to go to her room. She doesn't question.
"May we speak in private Miss Everdeen?"
President Snow asks me
"Yes" I try to keep my voice level
I lead them upstairs to the room where I haven't step foot in except when I moved in. It has a large desk with detailed seats and a few paintings of birds and other pictures on the wall. I step back and let Snow enter expecting his guards to enter too but they halt at the door showing that they must not enter any further. I step past them and as soon as I'm in they close the door behind me, keeping me in. Snow is at the other side of the room running his finger along the seat behind the desk then sitting down and setting his rose down on the edge of the table.
"Please, Miss Everdeen, take a seat" he says while gesturing to the seat on the other side of the table. I carefully sit down, too afraid to answer.
"You're aware of the victory tour that is coming up, correct?" he asks me
"Of course" I reply, confused as to why he's saying it. Everybody knows about the Victory Tour.
"And you're not worried at all?" he says
"Why would I be?" I ask
"We've agreed to not lie to each other" Snow responds
"I'm not lying to you sir" I tell him
He stands up and walks to the window watching Peeta's home.
"You have lots of suitors it seems" he says, still facing the window
"Excuse me?"
"I suppose you'll just have to swat them away " he continues on
It takes me a minute to realize what he means. Gale. He must have seen when Gale kissed me in the woods. If he witnessed that then he knows about me and Gale hunting past the fence. Not only that but how many times have I said how much I've hated the Capitol with him? The things we've said and when we planned on running away? He's heard and seen it all. My sacred place to get away from it all isn't what I thought it was. The Capitol ruined the woods too.
"I don't know what you're talking about. I love Peeta" I try to convince him
"Sadly, lots do not believe that and I don't either" he says looking back at me
"Many think that you're stunt with the berries was not out of love but out of defiance of the Capitol and if a young girl from district twelve can do this what is stopping them from doing so?"
I don't know how to respond so I don't say anything.
"This spark is giving the districts ideas. Ideas to rebel and to defy the Capitol. Such as Uprisings. With a spark like this unattended it can lead to an inferno causing everything to fall at its feet" he says
Uprisings? I didn't know about these things happening in the districts. Nothing at all.
"While you seem unable to love Mr.Mellark he seems quite the opposite. He's quite a handsome fellow and I know when I say that if you don't find a way to love him then there are many Capitol women who would lay down a pretty penny for Mr.Mellarks company" he says while giving me a toothy grin
As soon as he says this I can feel my face pale. Snows saying that if I can't convince everyone I'm in love with Peeta then he will sell Peeta for his body. I can taste vomit in the back of my throat at the thought. I can't let that happen to Peeta. I won't let it happen.
"I'll convince them" I say
"No don't just convince them," he dismisses himself pushing the rose closer to me and whispering in my ear he says "Convince me"
He leaves me alone in the room with the smell of blood still lingering.
