J U N G K O O K
I couldn't help but chuckle at my baby's demand. He was so cute that I felt like I could give the whole world to my little bunny.
And there she stood, all flustered and pink. I shifted little Ju into my arms and planted another kiss on his cheeks, watching him giggle and bounce.
"Okay, my little bunny, do you want to go to the amusement park with me?" I asked, ruffling his fluffy hair, hoping to bribe him away from this whole “Mama and Papa kiss” drama.
But nope.
"No, first, Mama kiss Papa," he pouted with that adorable angry face, pushing his lips out.
I hesitated for a second, ready to reason with him.
"But baby—"
"I'll do it."
My eyes snapped to her. She stood frozen, avoiding my gaze, but her voice was steady.
My little bunny was surely stubborn, but she—she was something else.
She took slow steps forward. Two steps. That’s all that stood between us.
Her eyes—brown, big, warm—met mine. The same eyes that had stunned me on the wedding day when she lifted her veil.
She was beautiful. Stunning. Maybe too much for her own good.
Even Alena never looked like this. Not like her.
But I’ve learned the hard way—beauty is the most dangerous illusion. It slips in quietly and poisons slowly.
And I can’t let that happen again.
I have to protect Ju. From hope. From pain.
She stood in front of me, hesitating again. Her eyes darted to Ju, who was now clapping and chanting, "Kissh kissh kissh!" like it was some sacred ritual.
She leaned forward, aiming for my cheek, and that’s when it happened.
Ju, the little devil, reached up and pushed my face just at the last second—
And her lips landed right on mine.
For a second—just one soft second—everything paused.
