I'm finally happy. I'm finally free. Then some space grape is coming to ruin that? Just my luck. "Nas, can I talk to you?" Mom comes into the living room, looking nervous. She's dressed in her suit.
"Mom. Why are you wearing that? What's going on?" She sits next to me. Nova is cooing at her, so she picks her up.
"We're about to head out. Thanos is here. I just wanted to say bye before I left, just in case-" She trails off. I know what she was going to say. Just in case something happens. I don't even want to think about it.
"I know. Nothing is going to happen. You're all going to be fine." She smiles sadly, then hugs me tightly. I almost can't breathe.
"Honey. You know as well as I do that things happen. Especially in my line of work. You'll walk me down?" I nod and we walk down to the front. "I love you." That's the first time she's said that.
"I love you too. Be careful, all of you." I look around at the team, loading into the Quinjet. They all say something along the lines of 'We will.' Bucky walks up behind me and hugs me.
"Not gonna say goodbye, doll?" He kisses my forehead and picks Nova up. "I'll see you in a little while kiddo." He kisses her cheek, hands her to me, and loads onto the jet.
"I have to fly this thing. So I'll uhm-" She clears her throat, choking back tears. "I'll see you in a little while." She turns and starts to load onto the jet. Then runs towards me and hugs me again. "If anything happens, take care of yourself." Then she turns and jogs back to the jet. I watch them take off, crying quietly. I know things happen. I just don't want them to happen to my family.
