"Too slow Satoru! Catch up," I called over my shoulder with a smirk as the white haired teen rolled his eyes at me. He pushed his dark sunglasses up his nose a bit more before reaching out towards the back of my shirt. Right when it seemed his fingers were about to clutch the material and yank me back, I managed to tuck into a sideways roll before hopping back up on my feet.
"That was a cheap trick. An enemy will never fall for that," Satoru huffed out, halting his run to turn to me with a frown and a shake of his head. I made an L with my fingers, the gesture moving to my forehead as I stuck my tongue out. I was a humble and mature winner of course. He only chuckled with my message as he took off his glasses to look at me with those too beautiful blue eyes.
"Well you fell for it. I'd say my chances are pretty good," I smirked, crossing my arms across my chest that was heaving slightly from the chase. Part of that also could've been the way Satoru's piercing stare made me feel a bit breathless. "You're not as strong and hot as you think you are," I pointed out with a teasing shrug.
That seemed to get Satoru's attention as he perked up. His own mischievous smirk spread across his face as he lifted the arm of his sunglasses, the end of it resting on his lips as his eyes narrowed at me. The expression made my breath catch for only a moment. He knew what he was doing after all and I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of a reaction.
"Oh I know I'm as hot as I think I am...and as you think I am," he cooed with a wink that made me choke a bit on oxygen. I tried to brush it off by sighing in exasperation even if my face was burning and my eyes kept looking into his. The teasing was normal between us but there was always a comment made that pushed it a little far...though I didn't necessarily dislike it."You wish, you asshole," I scoffed, shoving his shoulder as I walked a bit through the park he had chased me into. There weren't many people out at this hour of the night, only Satoru's annoying presence kept me company. And if I've learned anything from the time I've spent with him, there was no getting rid of him when he was set on attaching himself to you.
When I heard him laugh beside me, his steps perfectly in sync with mine as we traversed the grassy path, I couldn't help tensing up and side eyeing him. His head was thrown back as he chuckled like an insane man, which probably wasn't far off from the truth at this point.
"You make it so obvious and you don't even realize," he managed to breathe out through his laughter. My hands clenched by my sides, not in anger but more in embarrassment as I sneered at him. He was being way too loud in an empty park in the middle of the night, not to mention the words he was saying.
"What the hell are you talking about?" I hissed, shoving my elbow into his side to shut his loud laugh up. He seemed to get the hint at least as he clutched his ribs before quieting down. His other hand suddenly gripped my wrist, making me halt in my footsteps to sneer at him only to see him smiling with those stupid eyes of his.
"You don't know how flustered you seem right now over nothing. You don't see how eager your eyes are when you look at me or how your body tenses whenever we happen to touch. It's adorable really," he shrugged with a smile in my direction. I frowned, my eyes narrowing at him in unamusement. By the way his eyes widened in interest, my reaction was what he was looking for as he leaned in closer to me, his hand warm on my wrist.
"C'mon y/n, just say you like me already so we can get over the dramatics," he purred in my ear. The sensation made me flinch as I yanked my body away from him, my face on fire. I looked at him with wide eyes and a mouth hung open, in awe of where Satoru found the audacity to point out such a thing. He smirked at me though, as if he caught me in a trap.
"You're ridiculous and deranged! Where on earth would you come up with such a...a rumor?!" I stuttered, crossing my arms and looking away from him. I could've walked away in a huff but I was too stubborn for that. This felt like a challenge to see who would walk away first even though we both knew neither of us even wanted to do that.
"Y/n...please just say it already. I'm getting tired of waiting," Satoru sighed as if I was a difficult child he couldn't deal with anymore. My look of surprise quickly shifted to one of annoyance as I sneered at him with narrowed eyes. He wasn't about to pressure me into a confession when he wasn't even willing to take the first step. Like hell I'd tell him first. For all I knew, this could've been an easy way to set me up for more teasing.
"Waiting for what? I don't know what you want me to say Satoru," I mockingly played dumb, looking at him with a glare. Part of me was desperate to flip him off as well but I also didn't want him to leave. I wanted him to tell me how he felt before I made any further move. I wasn't about to try and ruin our friendship over a trick. Because whatever was happening right now, it would be hard to be friends after this one way or another.
"Damn it, I should've figured you'd be stubborn," he muttered, his smirk dropping into a serious frown. I couldn't even remember the last time I've seen him serious...or if I've ever seen him in a mood other than flippant and teasing. "I guess I like your dumbass," he muttered bitterly with a sigh.
There was a moment of silence, my eyes wide as I stared at him dumbfounded by his bluntness. It was like our dance of avoiding and reflecting had finally come to an end. The moment our hands were on each other, fingers in each other's hair and our lips softly pressed together, a soft hum leaving my throat while he snickered silently like the punk he was, I felt free from the restraints of ignorance we both forced ourselves to shackle to.
But now it was all different. As he kissed me sweetly and I let him with a barely restrained smile, everything else melted away. It was like we've been doing this our whole lives together. Like we never knew anything else but each other.
