A Tale of Two Spiders

Part 16

Miles's POV

Beep-beep-beep

My eyes fluttered open.

Where am I?

Still groggy, my eyes flicked over to the weight on my shoulder.

Oh, right.

Gwen was asleep on my shoulder, and my arm was around her.

We fell asleep?
Huh...

My eyes softened as I gazed at her.
Even asleep, she's beautiful.

I snapped back to reality when the annoying beeping sound started up again.
Ugh...

I picked up my phone and answered Ganke's call.

"Hello?" I said sleepily, still tired from my nap.

"Oh, finally. You took your sweet time picking up the phone."

"How many times have you called me?"

"Check your missed calls."

I pulled the phone away from my ear and checked the phone app.

1...

2...

3...

Needless to say, there were a lot of missed calls.

"Sorry...?"

"Whatever, Miles. Just get yourself over here."

"Why?" My eyes moved towards Gwen, and her peaceful sleeping face.

"You've missed a whole day of school, and I just made a huge breakthrough on the whole Spider-Man thing. So, whenever you decide to finish cuddling with Gwen, please make your way over to the dorm."

"Cuddling – you know what, never mind. What did you find out?"

"Come and see for yourself."

I checked the time. It was 5:33 pm.

Damn, I missed a lot.

I looked to my side again.

Well, I guess it was worth it.

I shifted a little, testing whether Gwen was going to wake up when I moved her or not.

She's a deep sleeper.

I lifted her up, and gently placed her down on her bed. I tucked her in and brushed the little hair that fell over her face.

"Bye, Gwen," I said, standing up and walking out of the door.

In his dorm

"Hey, Ganke." I opened the door and walked into the room.

He looked to his left and spotted me.

"Oh, finally, you're here. I was wondering how long you'd take."

"Whatever, man."

"Anyway, you won't believe what I made today."

"What?"

"So, in Art class, I was just doodling in my sketchbook, not really knowing what to do..."

"And then I started thinking about what happened yesterday..."

"And then I realized that there was no way we were going to get any information about the collider if we didn't go and find out ourselves."

"And since this is super dangerous, and you're the one with powers..."
