1:00 pm

"Megan!"

"Yes mom?" I rasp out while resting my phone on my desk

"Did you hear what I said?" Mama asks me through the phone

"No mama, what did you say?" I ask

"I said your father sent you some money for dinner." She tells me

"Thank you mom, I really appreciate it." I say respond

"Are you working your shift today?" Mama questions me while I continue to do my homework

"Yes, I actually have to go in a few minutes." I tell her

I hear shuffling around on the other end of the phone making me raise my eyebrow.

"Your father wants to talk to you Megan." Mom says

"Okay" I say softly

"Good afternoon Megan." He say in a professional tone similar to how he would talk to the people at his church

My parents are pastors so I make sure to attend their church every Sunday. I'm only eighteen so it's very hard for me to juggle school and church every Sunday but I do my best. That's what they expect from me so of course I respect their wishes and I do as they ask.

Money is very tough to obtain and I refuse to ask my parents for money so I work at a coffee shop. It doesn't pay a lot and I'm barely getting by, but thank god I have my best friend Normani or else I'd be homeless, begging to live with my parents. I've always been independent and I never liked to beg anybody for anything, especially my parents because they always hold stuff over my head.

"Good afternoon dad." I say sweetly as I look over at my bible that's resting on the side of my pink bookshelf

"How are you Megan? Did you get the money appcashed you?" He asks me making me chuckle softly

"Dad it's called CashApp." I correct him between my laughter

"But yes daddy I got it, thank you." I add on in an appreciative tone

"Mhm, don't say I never did nothing for you!" He jokes but he definitely has some serious undertones in there

"Thank you." I say again

"Of course, don't forget to be at our church at 8 am sharp. I want you to help us set up." Dad tells me in a stern tone

"Yes sir." I reply quickly as I fiddle with my cross necklace

I hear my apartment door open then it closes. I peak through my bedroom door to see my best friend, Normani coming into the apartment with her books pressed against her chest and her cross bag over her shoulder.

"I gotta go, my shift is starting soon. I have to get ready." I explain

"Okay Megan, I'll see you in the morning." Mom says
