A predator swept across the land in search of food, hunger causing it to stop occasionally and rest. The slugcat had not had a chance to eat last cycle due to the fact that she had been in severe pain from her sickness and had gone to lay down for a while only to end up falling asleep and only waking up as the rain started. Now she was paying the cost for taking a break. Ahead, she spotted a few batflies, fluttering between patches of grass. The Hunter approached them, crouching low to the ground to avoid being seen. She prepared to pounce, all focus on her prey. Just as Hunter sprang forth, she was seized by another wave of exhaustion, causing her to fall mid leap and scare off all the batflies. Urg, now I have to find something else! I should have just toughed it out last cycle.

As Hunter lay on the ground recovering from her exhaustion, she smelled the unmistakable scent of a lizard. Opening her eyes, Hunter saw the corpse of a cyan lizard in front of her. Looking up to see what had killed it, she saw a crimson slugcat looking at her. She had a cold expression and had a large scar over one of her eyes. Hunter looked at the slugcat in confusion. "Well, are you going to eat?" she asked after a moment, looking exasperated. "This lizard... is for me?" Hunter asked her, not wanting to get her hopes up. "Of course it is. Why else would I have dropped it in front of you?" Hunter was about to begin eating when something occurred to her. I shouldn't take this. I'm going to die soon. This slugcat still has her whole life ahead of her. The slugcat stared at her intently as she thought, waiting for her to do something. "Are you sure? Have you eaten yet?" She began to tear up at that but quickly wiped the tears away. "Yeah... I'm full. Just eat, you look so hungry." Hunter thanked her and began to eat the lizard as the slugcat continued to watch her.

She stayed until Hunter was done eating and then crouched down, preparing to jump. As she leapt from the ground, she began falling and Hunter looked down in horror after her as she fell. What is she thinking?! Just then, the slugcat began letting off sparks and exploded mid-air, propelling her onto the other side. Woah, Hunter thought to herself as she watched the slugcat leave. That's so cool.

There's the first chapter! This is only the intro, so I couldn't justify making them hug right away, but I'm not sure how long I'll be able to resist for.  The cover art is not my me. If there's anything specific you'd like to see in future chapters, please let me know. Just make sure to keep it appropriate for all ages.
