There was once two giant brothers who lived in the Altai Highlands. The younger brother had a dombra that he really liked to play. Whenever he played the dombra, he forgot about all his worries in the world. However, his older brother was too proud and vain. While his younger brother played the dombra, he dreamed of becoming famous, so he decided to build a bridge so people could pass by the fast river. When he started collecting stones for the bridge's construction, his younger brother continued to play the dombra.

Days passed and the younger brother continued to play his favorite instrument, instead of helping his older brother. This made the older brother very angry, so he took the dombra and smashed it against the rocks. The instrument broke and the music ceased, but the imprint of the instrument remained etched in the stone like a stamp. With many years passed, people have found this stamp and started making new dombras. The sound of its music, which had been silent for many years, resounded once again.
