CARSON

Zain came to my room early and woke me up.

I sent a mind link to Cassie to make sure she was awake and that she was on her way. We waited till she came through the door before we headed for breakfast.

We walked out of my room and headed for the kitchen. But on the way there, there was no pack member around, which meant it was quiet. I wanted to talk to Paul before everyone wakes us.

Lynx was quiet; he was trying to keep calm. He wanted to kill Paul for all the crap he had pulled, but we needed answers.

We ate our food in silence, but I knew Zain was thinking about what was going to be said. Paul was a cunning man, but the way he has been treating Leah has me concerned. No wolf should act like this, especially to a family member.

Once we finished, we walked over to the cells to the pack house's side.

The two guards that were on the outside guarding them bowed to me as I pulled open the door.

We walked in, but the smell of stale blood and death lingered in the air from the last time we were here. We headed to the cell at the end and stopped.

Lynx growled as soon as my eyes land on Paul. He seems to be asleep with his arm draped over his eyes, but he speaks. "Alpha," he said as he removed his arm and looked at me. He moves up and turns to face me. "What do I owe the pleasure?"

Staring at him, but I said nothing as I took in his appearance. I was trying to get a feel for him. The corners of his lips curl up as he cocked his head to the side as he talks again. "Let me guess, shall I?" he said. "The human that you have put into the pack house."

Lynx growled and came closer, but I held him back. "Not yet," I grunted to him. "We need answers."

Lynx mumbled something under his breath, but I couldn't tell him what he said.

A growl erupted by the side of me, letting me know Zain wasn't too happy with the way he was already talking.

Stepping to the gate, I leaned on the bar. "You have some nerve to be talking like that," I muttered. "Especially about my mate?"

Paul's lips went into a hard line, and his eyes bore back at me as I continued. "I want to know what your deal is," I said. "I mean, Leah is your granddaughter—"

Paul growled.

"She is no grandchild of mine," he gritted out. "She has no right to be here. My daughter should have gotten rid of her when she found out about her."

A rumble rippled through me as Lynx approached the surface, and a primal growl came out. Paul gritted his teeth, turned his head to the side, and bare his neck to me in submission. I didn't mean to use our alpha aura, but Lynx wanted to show him who was in charge.

I took back control. "Enough," I growled. "You talk like that one more time about my mate. I will kill you."

Paul stared at me. "She will never be your mate," he gritted out. "The moon goddess would never place a human with an alpha. If your father were here, he would make it his mission to stop this."

Anger rippled through me as I pulled the gate off its hinges and used my speed. I launched at him, pinning the old man to the wall behind him. His eyes widen in surprise.

Lynx came closer, letting Paul know he had the both of us there. But Lynx let me have control more. He just wanted to scare the man, and it clearly was working.

"First, the moon goddess gives us our soulmates, who she believes will make us more powerful," I gritted out, wrapping my hand around his neck and squeezing. "Second, you don't know what my father would have done, and even if he made me choose, there would never be a choice, as he would have to face me for the alpha position. I would never force anyone to choose. So all pack members better start realizing and need to get behind even you."

Paul's face hardened, but I didn't care and continued. "As for Leah, you are not leaving this cell until you apologise to her," I murmured. "But knowing you, you won't. So, here is what I will suggest when Leah knows about us, and she will soon. She can decide your fate."

"You would let her come in here," he murmured as a slow smirk inched at the corners of his lips. "I would like to see how fast she is because I would kill her."

My hand tightens around his neck more than he gasps for breath. Growling, I move closer, only leaving a mere a few inches from his face. "You won't have a chance," I growled. "I will kill you before you even take a step."

My hand tightens more, and his face goes a funny colour.

I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Carson," Zain called out. "Let him go."

I knew it was Lynx more than me. I had to let him loosen his grip. "Lynx," I growled in my head. "Let him go. He won't go anywhere near Leah. We will be with her every day."

Lynx and I slowly let go of his throat and moved back as Paul slid down the wall till he hit the ground, his hand wrapped around his neck as he coughed.

I had to move away, put some distance from him, or I would kill him, and I don't want to do that. I wanted Leah to choose his fate, but this old wolf was pushing all the buttons.

"You think I am the only one who feels like me?" he coughed. "There are more people in this pack that hate humans. That it does not include those I have spoken to about my issue with outside these grounds."

My stomach dropped, and I used my speed, gripping the old man by the collar of his shirt and slamming him up against the wall. "Are you threatening the Luna?" I growled.

I felt Zain's hands on my shoulders and someone else's as they pulled me off Paul. I let go of the old man as he slipped to the ground a second time, but his smile made me concerned.

"What the hell did you do?" I shouted as I was being pulled back by the guards from outside. They drag me till they get outside the gate.

Paul laughed. "Oh, alpha," he said smugly. "You might want to keep a closer on your human, Luna. There are a few people outside this pack that want her."

Growling, I tried to move back into the cell with him, but Zain ordered the guards to drag me outside.

Anger was my enemy at times as it would make me see red, but the way Paul said about outside help wanted Leah, which added fuel to the fire that made Lynx and me want to kill.

The guards pulled us out of the cells. Even though we thrush against them more, Lynx wanted out. His claws were coming through.

The guards pushed me out of the cells and outside but stepped back in before Lynx took over and shifted, pushing me back as he tried to get back inside. Slamming against the door, growling loudly.

I needed him to calm down and fast.

"Lynx," I shouted. "Run."

Lynx growled as he continued and tried to back inside the cells to get to Paul. I could feel his rage. Paul threatened his mate, and he wanted him to suffer.

Images of what he wanted to do to Paul flooded through our link, and each one was gruesome as the next.

I had to think, but an image of Leah popped into my mind.

"Lynx," I shouted. "You don't want Leah to see you like this. Please think about her."

Lynx growled but stopped his attack on the cell's door and looked around. A few pack members were looking on, concerned.

"Lynx," I murmured. "I know how much you want to kill him. I do too. You need to calm down. She will be awake soon. We can see her when she does."

Lynx grunted and looked toward the forest. After a few seconds, he sprinted off without saying a word.

Hopefully, a run would help, but I knew seeing Leah would only calm us, and that's what we both needed. But since she is asleep, I would have to wait awhile till Cassie tells me.
