Alberto glanced out the window as the ship entered the harbor. He squeezed Penny's hand and flashed an innocent smile at her. The summer heat poured through the glass window and sizzled Penny's pale skin. The painful tingles of warmth sent shivers down her spine. The relaxing summer she longed for was right behind the ship's door. The captain's voice roared through the speaker, "Ahoy, ladies and gents, we have now arrived at the port of Calypso Island! Go to the soft sandy beaches and stop for a sweet, creamy cone when you can! They are quite the treat..." His voice trailed ominously along, making the passengers aboard suspicious of him.Penny glanced at Roberto with a raised eyebrow. "Ay, what's his problem?" she giggled. Alberto laughed nervously, gripping Penny's hand tighter. "Relax, Peepee, it's just a recommendation." He smiled at her to seem reassuring, but a knot of guilt and fear began tightening inside his stomach. The loud voice beamed again, "Please make your way out the door to the beautiful Island of Calypso!" Penny rose from her seat excitedly. Alberto had soothed her nerves about the new destination. "Come on, what are you waiting for, silly!" She laughed, dragging Alberto out of his seat. He stood up, gathering his luggage from the upper compartments and rolling it out the door. There it was, the tropical paradise they had waited years to see. The casual lifestyle of family-owned businesses, flip flops, and Hawaiian t-shirts quickly embraced Penny with open arms. "Al, this is a place where I know I belong. Calypso is where I can fish until my arms give out, then unwind on a beach chair, watching the local children build sandcastles. Calypso is home." She glanced at Alberto, expecting him to share a mutual appreciation for the land, but was disappointed when she noticed the sweat on his palms, the trembling in his voice, and the dilation in his pupils. "Al? You alright?" She questioned. As Alberto took in all the sounds, colors, and smells, his head began to spin with an overall feeling of unwelcomeness. "Fuck-" He managed before fainting head-first on the sand. "Al?" Penny shrieked. She shook his unconscious body, begging Alberto for answers. But she received nothing from him but silence. "Someone help!" She screamed. Tourists scrambled to find their leader. Suddenly, a tall, dark figure emerged from the shadows. He walked towards Penny and scooped Alberto into his bulky arms. "Thank you so much!" She pleaded gratefully. "Excuse me, sir, what's your name?" She asked the ominous man. He turned his head slowly towards her. His lifeless, pitch-black eyes met her gaze. Her stomach dropped, and she gulped. The corners of his lips lifted to form a sizeable, uncanny smile, revealing razor-sharp teeth. Penny trembled in fear. "WAIT NO- PLEASE DON'T HURT HIM!" She attempted to grab him from Papa Louie's arms. The tourists watched in awe and shock, but the locals stood in place with blank faces. As if this was an everyday occurrence and they could not react to it in any way. The robotic presence of the locals frightened Penny, causing her to realize this was no ordinary resort. "SHIT-" She ran towards the doc in realization. A long, strong arm pulled her back through the sand. She struggled and screamed, crawling through the sand, trying to return to the ship before it left. But it was no use. Papa Louie's grip was firm, and he easily pulled her into his arms. She howled and sobbed in his arms. "Please let me go, whoever you are! I've done nothing wrong, please! I'm too young to die, and so is Alberto!" She pleaded. The tall man laughed darkly, clawing his nails into her soft skin. "STOP, PLEASE." She begged as she was getting deeply punctured. With Penny and Alberto in Papa Louie's grasp, he marched into the bloody ice cream parlor. He headed to the back room of the parlor that contained the ingredients for the ice cream. He tossed the kidnapped tourists to the floor and held their wiggling bodies still with his large feet. "Today is your first and last day of life." His deep voice sent shivers down both the tourists' spines. "I will be leaving my empire briefly this summer to address matters that do not concern you. You must wonder what I expect of you, don't you?" He laughed to himself, but neither Penny nor Alberto were amused. Louie walked towards the storage closet, pulling out two aprons and hats. "I expect nothing but the best obedience and service. You must keep the place pristine and maintain its status on Calypso Island. Let me tell you, this place takes weak children, snaps them in half, and scoops out their guts. So I have written you a long instruction manual to survive the summer. I suggest you read it because if you don't survive, death does not promise your exit from my glorious empire." This tortuous thought of being condemned to haunt the parlor for eternity brought a grin to Louie's burnt face. However, it terrified Penny and Alberto, causing them to lay still like helpless prey on the cold tile floor. Louie turned off the lights; his smile flashed brightly in the dark, leaving no sign of limbs or body. He withered away, dispersing from the parlor, leaving the two shaking in terror of what happened and what was to come.
