Alice only glanced at Rafe briefly as he came back in after a few minutes. Without a single word he sat down again, accidentally a little closer to her, causing their arms to brush against each other.

And the sofa was big enough to actually avoid such closeness.

Clearing her throat, she looked back at the TV and pulled the blanket closer as her favorite scene began to play. The one where the oh-so-tender princess danced with the untamed beast, hand in hand under the twinkling lights of the chandeliers. He led her gracefully, as light as a feather, as if he had never done anything else in his life, even though they were so different.

Different and probably shocking to others, but there were no voices to object because it was just him and her in the moment.

How ironic that this had been her favorite movie as a little girl.

And even though it was usually hard to distract her from her favorite movie, Rafe caught her attention as he suddenly leaned towards the table.

And he put down a bar of white chocolate right in front of her.

Without being asked, without any further addition, completely natural, as if it should have been clear to her that he had of course just left to get this.

Oh, this boy was much more than what everyone thought he was.

Trying to suppress a smile, she grabbed the chocolate and broke off a piece, splitting it in two and holding the other half out to him before eating her own.

The little things were what remained with them even in Sarah's presence.

The silence between the four of them spread across the room the closer the movie came to the end. Sarah - half asleep - had her head concreted on the countless pillows and was almost drowning between them, only her reaching for the M&M's showed that she was still awake.

Kelce, who was hanging at the other end of the sofa, had put his legs on the small footrest in front of the sofa and was eating his chips so loudly that they could almost no longer hear the TV.

And then there were Rafe and Alice.

The quietest in the room, almost as if they were afraid that even the slightest movement would trigger something big. And yet, just by looking at them sitting next to each other, anyone could tell that an invisible string was pulling them together.

An invisible string that was gradually becoming too much for Rafe.

„I'll be right back" He cleared his throat, adjusting his sweatpants before standing up.

„Dude, where are you going now?" Kelce frowned.

Rafe snatched the chips bowl from
him and pushed his legs off the footboard to get past. „kitchen, now shut up"

Alice looked after Rafe in confusion and found him looking back at her one last time with a certain glimmer in his eyes before disappearing down the hallway.

And a few seconds later, her phone screen lit up.
