Chapter 10

Mavericks POV

I watched as I saw her breathing slowly and got longer letting me know she was asleep. I kicked my shoes off and pulled my jeans off and my shirt before laying back in the bed. I didn't want to leave her. I would get up before her and be out before she knew I stayed.

I laid down back in the bed next to her and put my hand on her face brushing her hair out of her face. She was beautiful even while sleeping.

"I'm just a mess for you baby. I would only complicate your life." I said softly.

"I'd rather be a fool without your love than a dumbass for breaking your damn heart."

putting my arm under my head I laid back looking up at her ceiling falling asleep.

I felt the bed dip next to me and I jumped up seeing Lainey getting up. she got out of her bed walking out into her living room. I turned over and grabbed my phone to see the time on my phone said it was only 3 in the morning. I quickly grabbed my jeans and put them on to walk out to the living room. As I got out there I saw Lainey leaning out the window trying to light up a cigarette that was in between her fingers. I pulled the lighter out of my jeans and put it in her cig. she turned to look at me as she put the cig to the lighter. I watched as she took a drag, letting it out the window.

"You know these will kill you."

"Then why is it in your hands?"

"I only have one when I drink. drunk cigs don't count." The little smile on her lips was cute. I took it from her hands and squashed it before throwing it out the door.

"that was from your pack.

"It's cool I quit."she just shook her head before walking away to go to the kitchen.

"what are you doing up" she shrugged her shoulders "couldn't sleep."

"Well, I need my employees to get a full night's rest." I tried cracking a smile and I saw she wasn't in the mood.

"Want to tell me what's wrong." I asked as I saw her zone out a little. tears were about to fall from her eyes and I quickly grabbed ahold of her. "Lainey Baby."

"I'm fine...can you just lay with me?" the way she looked right now i sure wasn't going to leave her. I pulled her to come with me back into the bedroom and I pulled her to me and I got in the bed making sure she was laying on me. She wrapped her arms around my body and I could feel her tears falling onto my chest.

"What is it baby?"

"it was Derick...he was trying to hurt me."she had a nightmare about that ass. It made me so angry that he still had this pull on her. She deserves someone that is going to take care of her and protect her. She deserved the world.

"you don't have to worry about that ass.not while i'm around."

"Thank you Maverick." came from her lips as I started to play with her hair trying to get her to calm down and go back to sleep with me.
