1. A Hopeless Romantic

Oh my lord, I don't want to look at these boys. Why are they bothering to show me these guys when they're fully aware that my love life seems to be on a permanent vacation? I've tried my luck and ended up with nothing but heartache. Whatever, these guys they're presenting feel like the last straw in my dating misadventures.

Aura and Serena are my ride-or-die best friends, the ones I trust more than anyone else in the world. But lately, they've been getting on my nerves by bombarding me with a lineup of guys they believe fit my "type."

"Eva, would you stop behaving like a depressed divorced man?"

Aura says in an annoyed tone. "I said, I don't like any of them. Would you stop showing me?" I said, rolling my eyes.

"Aura, she'll die single. Why are we helping her?" Serena says while narrowing her eyes at me.

We all are single but I don't know why they want me to date a guy.

"Guys Seriously? Look at their bio. 'Landed on earth on 8th June' Was this guy an alien whose UFO dropped him here? And this 'Cake murder on 20 March' he murders the cake? I would rather die than date him."

Aura and Serena finally look at me with the eyes of realization. Thank god.

"She does have a point," Serena admitted, shooting a knowing look at Aura.

"Sweetie, you've got to find your happiness. I won't tolerate you turning into a hopeless romantic. You're a gem, and you deserve nothing less than heaven," Serena emphasized, her words laced with genuine concern.

Aura, in her usual no-nonsense tone, chimed in, "Enough of that 'I am fated to be alone' talk, my girl. If I hear it again, I'm not joking, I'll whisk you away and personally arrange a marriage with one of these guys." Her threat was delivered with a hint of playfulness, underscoring her genuine care for me. I couldn't help but smile — Aura's brand of tough love was exactly what I needed.

Exiting the cafe where we'd been stationed for what felt like an eternity, we ventured out to dive into the topic of my non-existent love life. Our paths diverged as Serena, delving into the world of software engineering, took a different route, while Aura and I headed toward the same classroom, bound by our shared pursuit of medicine.

As Aura and I finished packing up our things after the lecture, Suzy, the notorious playgirl of our campus, sauntered over to us. Suzy was undeniably beautiful, but her reputation for playing with people's emotions preceded her.

"Hey, Eva. Have you seen Joshua around?" Suzy inquired, her tone dripping with insincerity.

I arched an eyebrow. Joshua was a guy I had a crush on a few months back, but after he rejected me for not being his 'type,' I quickly moved on. I was no longer interested in keeping tabs on him.

"No, why would I know?" I replied nonchalantly.

Suzy smirked, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "Well, I thought you might, considering how you used to follow him around like a lost puppy. You know, all those whereabouts."

Aura, my brutally honest best friend, didn't waste a moment before hitting back at Suzy. "Adding Joshua to your long list of guys? Seriously, it's like you're collecting boyfriends or something. Maybe you should get organized, like make a chart or start a dating blog."

Suzy was left stunned, and Aura's witty comeback had her scrambling to come up with a response before she awkwardly walked away. Aura and I shared a satisfied look, proud of shutting down Suzy's drama with a touch of humour.

Later, as we walked towards our next destination, Aura spoke up. "Eva, seriously, why let someone like Suzy get under your skin? You're worth more than that drama."

I nodded appreciatively. "You're right, Aura. I shouldn't let her nonsense bother me."

Aura threw an arm around my shoulder. "Exactly. Now, about those guys we were discussing earlier, maybe we should focus on finding someone who appreciates you for who you are, not some cake murderer or alien from June 8th."

We laughed, heading towards the next lecture with a newfound determination to embrace our single lives without unnecessary drama. After all, with friends like Aura and Serena, who needs romantic complications?
